2026 NBA All-Star Weekend Thread

The Sunday main event was fun. The rest of it was a total trash.

Imagine if we had couple really great dunkers, a better skills challenge, etc. and then you add a competitive Sunday event. People would be so hyped up calling it one of the greatest all star events.

Getting one great all star event night out of three is better than nothing, but they have a lot of work to do fix it. At least we know for now the 3 team format actually works because those dudes don't wanna be on the team that gets eliminated first.

I still don't think this format is the answer. You'll eventually run into the same problems as East vs West when for a period of time, one conference was just way more talented (and that's not even taking injuries into account). They already had to pull American players to add to the World team since they didn't have enough players.

Now that we see the All-Star tournament system produced a more watchable game, this is how I would tweak it.

A three team tourny is weird, so I would expand it to 4 teams, 7 players each. Instead of US vs World, I would divide the teams by location, East, West, Central, South.

East/West play each each other, winner plays the winner of Central/South.

Games are played in two 10-minute halves with a 15 minute intermission before the championship game so nobody gets gassed like this year's last game.
