Because it's not single elimination it's a round robin format and then a championship game with the top 2 regardless of who won how many during the first stage. The world had no wins so by default it was gonna be stars vs stripes in a sudden death final

Round robin tournaments always confusing to explain out loud but I've seen enough of those in the fighting game world to know the finals can easily be players who's records dont match up exactly
