This album is overrated to hell and back outside of the title track they just kept going on and on

Like someone else said if they just focused on making dope shyt rather than whining for a whole damn album

De La had kinda fallen off which made them complaining about nikkas seem weak

The whole underground backpacker movement of the late 90s was inspired by this idea of "make hip-hop great again"
rather than actually making great Hip-Hop shyt was lame

They were always pretentious mfs but they would back it up with a classic album....not this time

Then after this they ditched Prince Paul and fully put they heads up they own asses for good

Above the fray.
De la is Dead is Dead still had humor in it (however dark) evidenced by the parody tracks and songs like Bitties in the BK Lounge. Once Prince Paul left, the whole dynamic changed. He kept making darkly humorous records like the first Gravediggaz album and Psychoanalysis, and De La just became grumpy and (in my opinion) boring.

I don't need De La telling me rap music is in bad shape, just make good music :manny:
Agree

Pos had some bars on this album, but too much complaining about what other rappers could, should, or are doing. This is what hurt the Roots, who were doing the same thing at the time

I fukk with AOI Mosaic Thump, for the reasons you pointed out....had the original De La spirit, which was more about them, and less about what rapper x,y,z is doing.

The same complaints I’ve heard people say for this album are some of the same I’ve heard about TPAB. Two different concepts and themes but folks took issue with the material and the preachiness of it. The Roots did it to a lesser extent but as we’ve seen, they’ve become way too avant-garde in their music. They have somewhat of a “we’re above making hip hop for hip hop heads” feel.

Name the bad songs on Stakes is High.
I tell you what, in keeping with what my last answer was, I can tell you the sings off the album that I fukked with

The Bizness, Its So Easy, Stakes is High.

I'm old enough to remember CDs, and the Shuffle feature....
The first two De La albums, and some of the other ones played perfectly in origin sequence or even in shuffle mode....after you'd heard it a hundred times the origin way.

Stakes is High was okay, but was uneven....which is why the songs I mentioned stood out. Rest of the album sounded like filler.

Respectfully, I don’t think you’ve even listened to this album.
