There is a difference though between The Great Depression and now: people don’t want to work.

At least here in San Diego, every store I go to is hiring. Target, Wal Mart, Supermarket, gas stations, there is opportunity to work.

Also, of those jobless, some are creating income without a specific company (Lyft/Uber, doordash, shypt, grub hub) etc.

I’m not saying it’s not bad, because I understand a middle manager not wanting to go be a stock boy, but it’s different :yeshrug:
Nikkas also dont want to pay

Work that job and still cant pay shyt

Aren't the furloughed and under employed included in these numbers?
they might be. who knows. these days people have the options to have side hustles also, which I don't think the opportunities were too common during the great depression. issue is there wasn't a pandemic going on unless maybe the spanish flu, but dont know what the lockdown procedures were like back then

The Coli was saying how the Corona Virus is more important than the economy and how companies are just greedy:yeshrug:
Sounds like a classic straw man argument. The economy can't come back with a pandemic raging. Our economy is based on consumption, NOT on businesses being open. You can open all the businesses...spending with be down significantly because people don't want to get sick.

Anyone going to a restaurant next week if your governor says it's ok? Dental office? How many people will go back to the gym? Spending won't go back to normal as long as people are getting sick and testing capability is low due to this trash president.

This was a bubble waiting to burst. Decades of incompetent leadership. Gutted programs due to said leadership. Wages lagging woefully behind inflation. Zero financial literacy amongst most of the population. System being held together by low wage workers. COVID-19 was the perfect storm. Just look at the epic collapse of the greatest economy the world has ever known. Took just a few weeks to topple this goliath.
To be honest, the whole system is rotten and needs to be uprooted and rebuilt :yeshrug:I don't know how we do that, tho

The onus is on the system so corrupt and unsustainable that we weren't prepared for a pandemic. Its amazing how something as simple as a virus could bring down the world economy. As a society we need to start respecting the power of nature and also build a more functional civilization equipped to handle large and complex problems like this.

The economy was bound to bust if you been following along the charts.i think some of you posters live in a fantasyland because you figure you make good pay or have a good job and those are the people who get rocked to sleep. shyt will go down and come back again. Hopefully this is wake up call to the masses or the few paying attention. The thing that’s crazy is people can’t see that you can only top profits by so much.we have enough technology to improve and make things more efficient, but the people in power just want to own everything.

The Coli was saying how the Corona Virus is more important than the economy and how companies are just greedy:yeshrug:
No we didn’t. We said preventing unnecessary deaths, protecting the lives of our loved ones, and keeping our own damn life is more important than the economy and yes I stand by it. And companies are greedy. No lies told.

I’ve also said that those that want to get back to work and risk their own lives, should be able to. I honestly believe that some companies should be allowed to open back up and implement protective measures where they can and allow workers who want to work the option to go back to work and those that don’t want to go back to work and take that risk should be allowed to stay at home and work remotely or just be unemployed if they don’t have the ability to work remote.

The thing is a study recently came out that revealed that up to 80% of people don’t want to break stay at home order/quarantine yet, they don’t feel safe and don’t want to take that risk. Yes it’s selfish, but at the end of the day hell nah a lot of us are not willing to die so y’all can get back to work.

Hey everybody who said it will be worse than 2008: I agree now.

Over a month into this shyt and the government hasnt made a plan. Just UBI till the crisis is over would have went a long way to keeping people afloat...now business and people will be broke and a ton of jobs are going away forever. Im already making post-lockdown career plans cause this gonna touch everyone. Our government failed us.

I think they do have a plan but they wont utilize until it profits them the most. Many commom folks have hit the stock market more then ever before. Many are investing instead of selling and they all dont want to share that pie.
