Yeah, a lot of people are stuck between STAY HOME and MUH FREEDOMS but reality will hit both camps real soon.

I take stock of this situation from the beginning until now and has my stance changed? No. Covid is a mild threat that can wreck havoc on unprepared nations and populations. Much like the advanced disease can kill uncomfortably quickly via the body's own immune response (a cytokine storm overreaction) so too can an overreaction to the disease from a policy standpoint or a dismissal of the disease via ignorance, idiocy or misinterpretation. A pragmatic, measured response would be best but given the vastly diverse cultures, societies, economies, healthcare systems, and populations of nations around the world mitigation guidelines would need to be tailored for that individual nation; a one size fits all approach isn't feasible. All of this takes competent leadership and an intelligent, informed and cooperative citizenry.

Not much too ask from the western world and it's sole Superpower the United States, right? Well, looks like it was. Now we just have a bunch of western powers expressing genuine joy that they can be seen as the best of the worst instead of the worst, both trivializing and sensationalizing the COVID deaths at the same time. The same slap fight is going on between US states as well.

I said awhile back if this virus brings America to it's knees that means we deserved it. And it looks like we did. Worse yet, people might have to face the uncomfortable truth that the social distancing mitigation that's been in place for the past month is the ABSOLUTE BEST we can do realistically balancing both health and economics and it won't be repeatable. I don't think people are prepared to concede that a "low, comfortable" level of deaths in the US may not have ever been a possibility. Much like hundreds of thousands of heart disease and Cancer deaths per year are "reasonable," 50-150k COVID deaths per year might be what you should set your expectations for. Sounds terrible now, but people will adapt and unfortunately, Capitalism will march on.

/End Rant

Bingo. America’s fate was decided when leadership treated the virus like a democrat “hoax” instead of preparing for it. Now it’s too fukking late and it’s a damn shame. shyt, your fate was decided when that clown got elected.

This one is on the government. 100%. Completely fukked it’s citizens in a way I never thought I’d see from a 1st world country.

Not only does voting matter, but voting for competent people matters. Demand more from your leadership.

The root problem is cacs in this country. I live in Kentucky and these idiots are mad at the governor for not opening the state back up. Even though Kentucky has been doing a good job of keeping infections and deaths down compared to other states.

Any logical person in November would vote Mitch McConnell out. Unfortunately the cacs in this state will vote for him again.

There are some cacs that will vote against Mitch but there are a lot more ignorant and racist cacs that will still vote for Mitch.

None of what you said is a job description though.

you’re right and I’ve been getting quoted so I may have gotten threads mixed up :snoop:

What are you looking for, job advice? Hustle advice? There are so many ways to make money today even during the quarantine, it doesn’t really compare to the depression in the 1900s

Sounds like a classic straw man argument. The economy can't come back with a pandemic raging. Our economy is based on consumption, NOT on businesses being open. You can open all the businesses...spending with be down significantly because people don't want to get sick.

Anyone going to a restaurant next week if your governor says it's ok? Dental office? How many people will go back to the gym? Spending won't go back to normal as long as people are getting sick and testing capability is low due to this trash president.

that's what idiots don't understand. This economy is based on leisure consumption. Even if everything opens back up mfs aren't about to go the Applebee's then go buy a bunch of shyt they don't need at shopping centers.

The problem with unemployment funds is that there is finite resources.

The best prepared states such as mines in NC only have three months left in their reserves. THREE MONTHS..AT THE CURRENT LEVEL. If this goes up another 500k-1 million over the new two weeks, that three months turns abruptly into two months. Fortunately, we have a 3 billion dollar surplus in funds but it’ll be interesting to see what happens to it with the economic stressors affecting other departments.

But guess what happens if the Feds say we can’t afford to bail out the other states with unemployment, which is what I’m hearing already due to the $600 assistance that went out. Remaining claims get prioritized by need and more and more get left “PENDING”..May the Father be merciful if that happens.

This is a extremely precarious situation that can lead to some very extreme outcomes.
The fed has already said they are going to print money in unlimited amounts as needed. Unlimited QE. Nobody will run out of money. Inflation would be the potential issue.

For weeks people have been on social media and messageboards complaining that people aren't following the social distancing guidelines because they don't take this virus seriously enough, but you're telling me that when people are able to go outside without some Reddit Recluse calling the police on them they will be too afraid to do so? This doesn't make sense.

If people aren't afraid to queue in a Wal-Mart then they will not be afraid of patronizing businesses that are (supposed to be) applying strict social distancing. Social distancing is counter intuitive to a number of soon to be reopened businesses and that will hurt those businesses and surrounding economies.

Its gonna be bananas as soon as its "marketed" that the virus basically goes away in the summer and the cases are down:heh:
