its sad to say, but jay is falling further and further down my list. around 2002-2004 he was probably my favourite, and i would have argued best. now, dude might not make top 10 ever.

pac is top 5 though.

Same here.

He seems to get worse with every release and he's always been kinda inconsistent with his music.

But fukk it, he ain't the first to fall off, so :yeshrug:

its true.....new music from jay is like watching jordan with the wizards.....he still shows flashes of greatness but father time is undefeated....the lack of consistency is worse than it has ever been for jay......some verses im :ooh: others im just like:why:

The thing that baffles me with him is he really thinks he's done kind of innovator :heh:

But all I've seen him do is follow trends.

I ain't even hating, cos some of his music is the best hip hop of all time, but when nas said "dikk riding fakkit, you love the attention...", it really did sim him up.

He even admitted to dumbing his music Down to gain fans/money.

I think if he had made the music for the love of making it, we truly would've had multiple classic albums/songs, but then he wouldn't have got so rich, so I understand it at the same time.

I wouldn't say he "traded his soul for riches...", but there is a some truth to it.

@bigdennisuk

your prob right...... i cant knock jay for dumbing down the music most artist had to change .....look @cam first album how he was spitting then we got to dipset oobie dooobie foobie wooobie lines and he blew up:manny: ...... but jay became big to a point where he could have kept that bar raised and set the bars direction but like most entertainers/athletes when they get to a comfortable space they want to keep it.. thats why i respect nas and 5o.......nas makes the music he wants and 50 is more savvy....he capitalizes on opportunities but both pretty much has stayed with his core music which takes guts imo when its not the "popular" sound to jump on and you have no fux given about the status quo of dikkriding and popular opinion we have seen in the game the last 4 or 5 years

All these Pac/Jay/Big/Nas/Cube/Em threads that flood the front page of the forum in 2013 is a testament that the current hip hop scene isn't worth talking about...

If this generation is poppin so well and carrying the torch, why does everyone still want to spend all day talking about 40 year olds?

Who are the top 25 rappers under the age of 25? Anyone know or care?

Yep.

Jay didnt even think kanye was good enough to promote when he was on his label, but nowadays it's all watch the throne and shyt, didnt they even do a trap style song on that album :heh:

Another embarrassing thing jay does is jump on popular artist songs without permission, remember amy winehouse saying she never authorised his remix of rehab, like :wtf:

Nas went and done distant relatives (which I think is a top notch album), I don't even know how that album came about, but I can only think it was from musical respect from each artist, cos it certainly wasn't commercial appeal.

Like I say, it ain't about hating on jay, but he's snoop status to me at this point, I'm surprised he hasn't done a song with David guetta.

But fukk it, he's a hustler not a rapper, he always said that :scusthov:
