As the match is about to start though, Gunther takes out Jimmy in the most violent way possible.

That would finally give the feud some real personal heat.

I just saw the whole promo. It was cool, and there were parts of it I really liked ("YOU STEAL FROM ME," calling out people who wanted new attire/music, not wanting anyone to support him), but it came off very "you people" half the time. We still don't know why exactly Cena chose to side with The Rock or what that whole deal is. And seeing as how Cena has been getting way more support in the last couple years than he ever did in his prime, why did he choose now to turn on the crowd?

I figured he would have tried to justify his actions more, made it clear that he's about his business and his goal is to break Ric Flair's record at WrestleMania. Like he knows what he did is unpopular, but it was right. Tried to gaslight the crowd into thinking he was left with no other options. But instead, it was more like "you never believed in me and I'm done trying to get you on my side." I don't think that's the direction they should have went in, and Cody low-key buried the promo when he said he didn't want to go up against this version of Cena.

There's still more they can do with this story, and it's his first heel promo in over twenty years, so I don't want to be too harsh. I do think they need Rock back ASAP, showing up every week because he's literally the catalyst behind this and he didn't get mentioned once.

Cena's part was fine, it was Cody that came out and added nothing. Cody trying to bury something people waited 15yrs for, is just as dumb as when Cena kept trying to bury The Rock. Cena not saying anything afterwards made the rest of that segment pointless.
