What was your proposal for a better bill? You might remember that Republicans control the Senate and presidency, and Democrats still got through a $2 trillion bill that includes an unprecedented $2700 extra on top of normal unemployment benefits every month, not even counting the $1200 for adult and $500 for kids one-time payments.
It's not full salaries for everyone, but regular unemployment + $2700/month extra + $1200 for each person + $500 for each kid is going to go a long ways towards that for working-class folk.full salaries???

Im not even mad, im trying to understand. I think back to the Spanish flu and how one city got wrecked after a celebration for the war and another made it out better for lockdown.
If people just want to roll the dice and do business as usual, I wish they would say it. Dont quote stats about another virus, say with your chest that keeping it business as usual is preferred. Working in IT, people dont notice us until things go wrong, but bytch and moan about patches and downtime when we are trying to prevent the worst.

Telling people in FAMILIES who don't have guns to buy them for self-defense at a time when they can't even get training is a horrible fukking idea. Especially at a time when temptation for suicide is up. Far far more likely that someone in the family would hurt themselves in an accident, use the gun to off themselves, escalate a situation that wasn't going to be fatal, or hurt an innocent person just looking for help than they are to actually successfully defend their life with a brand new gun.

A more terrible idea is believing this many people being unemployed at once won't create type of desperation that motivates people to victimize their neighbors or people ill equipped to defend themselves. You won't have the luxury of helping anyone if you can't discern whether they're at your door to seek help or inflict harm.

The first news of coronavirus in China didn't come out until December and that has zero to do with American death rates. The very first coronavirus death in the USA was on March 1, less than a month ago. There are not 1,037 deaths, and 3/4 of those have come in the last four days.
By the time yesterday's numbers are reported we'll be up to 1,000+ deaths in the last five days. Spain and Italy, far smaller countries than us, hit nearly 1000 deaths a day. Being that we're over five times larger than them, f we had done nothing we easily could have seen 5000 deaths a day if not more. Comparing that to a flu season where you might see 5000 deaths in the entire month is just stupid.
And that's before you even get into the hospital strain which y'all keep ignoring.
At this point, you can no longer debate with people like him because his arguments are not couched in fact but rather dangerous talking points.
