i agree and depending on the program they do come to schools and recruit

i was in this GM car design workshop in votech for like 3 weeks out the semester

the prob was inner city kids had to compete with nikkas from China,Japan, and other students from more prepared programs and were basically a pipeline directly to GM already

me and my bro placed 1-2 out our class but when we got to the chosen ones it wasnt even close. them kids had been prepared by their schools for years to compete.

not enough push from the students nor the parents as well as the employers for better funding and technology

http://www.evxteam.org/press

well it's not impossible for inner city kids to kill it in competition but it does take a special kind of program/school though...

but back to the point yea i agree....plus who really knows exactly what they want to do for the rest of their life at at 17-18? come on.....the system is a joke....send kids off aimlessly to collect massive debts

do you think its gonna casue problems in the workforce when 30 year olds are competing for the same jobs as young people?

esp degree holders?

Oh yeah, its already causing problems. I see it at my job where you have a 23year olds fresh out of college and then 35 y/os who went back and got their papers goign for the same positions

Our HR lady is the same too cause she got her degree at 31 so she is partial to those type of employees (late bloomers), While our director did the college right out of high school route so they are constantly going at it over our New Hires.

I personally think gong to college when you are little older is more effective cause you have a betetr prespective of why you need to know these things and are more likely to try to learn and understand rather than just making sure you make a good enough grades to pass which is really what you are trying to do at 17, 18, 19

also i think the lanscape of jobs have changed there are positions now that weren't around like 5 years ago that pay well and jobs that do really have a curriculum in college....because technology and fields like marketing are constantly changing

as an aside, great thread, and the fact that its not in HL :manny:

big picture wise, as a previous poster inferred, this will probably have an impact on society, since we have placed our bets on capitalism (which has generally managed to figure things out)...so we'll wait. :leon:

u have to have a degree nowadays, especially if u black.

that's how companies eliminate black folks.. i saw it in the paper where burger king is considering anyone who wants to be in management they will need a degree.

Plus i remember when i graduated 10 years ago all u needed was a degree but now u must have a degree and at least 5 years experience.. then in another 5 years companies are going to add something else to it

yeah makes sense to me...I hate to sound generic here but the world is changing...technology is changing the way businesses operate leading to a lot of people who lack certain skillsets getting phased out of their industry no matter how old they are...learning will never stop if you plan on adapting to change...or you can just be that ngga who was comfortable in his position with no worries now mad wondering why he got laid off :beli:

I graduated 4 years ago and got hired basically while still in school because of relationships I built in college. I also plan to go back starting this summer as well to keep climbing that ladder. I always tell people that education is important depending on what it is you want to do, especially if it costs you nothing. If you have to pay out of pocket then I can definitely understand the apprehension to go back.

honestly i think it actually makes more sense to go to college in the mid to late 20's as oppose to straight out of high school....most people really do not know what they want to do in life at such a young age....often times undecided/changing majors or in majors just for money and not passion go on to work in their field and hate it...

if there was a better system where high school graduates can enter the work force and get a feel of what they want to do then go to college it would save so many people from debt

i disagree. first of all, while i applaud going to college at any age. do you know how hard it is going in your mid to late 20's? most likely mom dukes aint funding your education like she would if you were 17-20. most classes are in the daytime. when you have to work to pay bills. the only way i could see going to school working is if you either 1) go online. 2) see if your parents can help you financially while you attend fulltime. 3) work at night.
the worst thing you can do is tell high school kids to enter the workforce. a 17-18 year old kid with some cash in his pocket?? i think thats a bad thing. because at that age, you think you big time and balling. you got a car, some cash. a girl. you feeling real good. but you dont realize that there's so much money you leaving on the table. you dont realize that you could be doing so much better.

THAT'S THE GENERAL PUBLIC. IF YOU KNOW SOMEBODY THAT STUFF DOESN'T APPLY TO YOU. IF ANYTHING SOME COMPANIES WANT YOU WITH THE SAME SKILL LEVEL BUT NO DEGREE SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO PAY YOU.

I'm one those old(per OP)people that are contemplating going back/to college. When we were what we were doing about 10-15 years ago, it was easy to pick up a good paying job without college and it wasn't the end of the world. If I could do it all over again, I would have went to college at the turn of the millennium when college was cheaper than it is now. Everything is f**ked up now and negroes are scrambling to get they s**t together.

I'm not sure if I'm going though because I'm not sure if I can pay for it and not be into more serious debt than I am now(car payment)and it's useless if I can't graduate with a 3.0GPA(3.5 being my desired)because I'm terrible at math. Right now, I just have a job and I might just pick up a trade.

Never tell yourself you are terrible at anything or it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Better to have irrational self-confidence than rational defeatism.

Stop acting like you can't get it and fukking get it mate.

you said you suck at math. well you dont have to stay that way.

https://www.khanacademy.org/math/arithmetic/addition-subtraction/basic_addition/v/basic-addition

go thru it no matter how simple it is. then look up to the top left. go there next. do that stuff. no matter how simple. then keep moving on.

you will no longer suck at math if you keep doing this. you will actually be very good at it.

you suck at math because you missed some basis stuff that your teacher should have stayed on you about. but didnt. so you never learned a couple of key principles. once you learn those. the Fog that covers math and makes it seem scary to most will go away.
i say do that above stuff before you go back to school. you can also mess around with other subjects on her to prepare you for school if you're going back. you could be ahead of the game by the time you go back.

remember we didnt have the internet game on lock like it is nowadays. school + the internet = easy C without thinking about it. school + the internet+ a little studying = a B to B+. if you actually are serious with studying. school + the net = an A.
