Tremendous player.
I hated him in 1995 when he scored the winning run against the Yankees in that ALDS. What a great series, though.

BTW, you would think Griffey won the ROY considering he was so good, so young. But in 1989 he actually finished 3rd, behind Gregg Olson and Tom Gordon.
By 1991, though, he was already a top 10 positional player in the game.

Griffey's marketing and starpower was all Nike. Would have thought he was in the NBA.

Shoes, video games, commercials.

It's crazy no one in baseball today even comes close.


Who is even the biggest star in baseball currently? There's not anyone with even a fraction of the coolness or marketability as Griffey...the idea of baseball player with a popular signature shoe sounds absurd today
