edit: a real scientist does not BELIEVE in extraterrestrials. A scientist simply has the theory that the conditions for life are not unique to earth, and very possibly have happened elsewhere in this universe. Until concrete empirical evidence of extraterrestrials is confirmed, it is just a theory.
You would do well to distinguish the difference between blind assumption and logical hypothesis. But then again, I do not expect a theist to embrace logic.

My thing with atheism is that many people use it as a means to scrap any responsibility to their communities and eschew social norms. Many take on nihilistic approaches to life and this world and shun any form of altruism.
