Good album and props to Jay for making some quality shyt in 2017 and it getting recognition, and the fact that it's Jay-Z, so you can actually believe his stuff would sell, but good lord metrics to go gold/platinum are so damn phony. It's like stuff gets made up of out of thin air

But this has nothing to do with what Jay did. It's literally the exact same deal as MCHG. Fans downloaded it a million times once given the code. That easy.

And is Jay the only one to release first week on Tidal ? Is Jay not allowed to release "his" album on "his" streaming site ?

Basically sprint bought a million copies but in order for Jay to get credit for them a million people had to go through Sprint or whatever and download it? If so I don't see what the problem is. A million people still did what needed to be done to get the album.
If he sold Sprint the album for 10 a pop he's making more money than getting 150000 streams for 1 album. Great business move.

Was the code for accessing just the album or was it for everything on Tidal?
Were people forced to download the album with the code? Or were they allowed to stream it?
1500 streams = 1 Sale but how many downloads = 1 sale? Do they even count downloads vs streams?

Homie above already answered all that. This has nothing to do with streams at all. If a corporation buys your album at a price and then gives user the opportunity to download it at their choice, them it counts. So every sprint user who used the code to get the album counts.
I don't have sprint but I do have tidal .
I've easily listen to that album 40 times this weekend .
