Obviously Drake is more famous and a bigger star, but as far core fanbase? We might have to give that to Cole
Drake did 1.02 first week with the added streams for Hotline Bling. Which is still amazing. But he's also a pop star. I'm not saying that as a insult. I'm saying he has way more promotion than J.Cole. He did those numbers with the buzz off of singles top 5 singles, one dance, a throne feature, absolutely controlling urban radio year round regardless if he's in an album cycle, one of the most famous "beefs" in Hip Hop history, a Collab Mixtape with the hottest rapper in the world and not to mention he's been mentioning views since as early as 2014
Cole. Goes ghost. No hit single. No round radio on smash, less promotion. No features. No controversy. No beef. And is about to be good for 600k first week.
Not to mention they're both arena acts at this stage in their careers.
Drakes pop fanbase > his core fanbase
J.Cole core fanbase > his pop fanbase
J.Cole's core fanbase > Drake core fanbase
Drake pop fanbase > Cole Core Fanbase
Drakes formula depends on staying in the public eye. Even between Album cycles he's always on the radio, always out, always on the hottest singles. Cole can literally dissapear for 2 years and do numbers. His core fanbase won't let him flop
And he's arguably the last artist to go ACTUAL platinum.
this ain't me saying he's bigger than Drake. He's not. But as far as the core group of people who are going to support no matter what? Cole has that. People who fukk with Cole now been fukking with him since The Warm Up.
Very few So Far Gone/Comeback Season core fanbase nikkas fukk with Drake nowadays because hes strayed so far from his original sound/formula.
