While Drake controls urban radio year round, is on everyone's songs, makes pop/radio music and still sells in the same ballpark as Cole.

please, Drake doesn't have any substance in his raps. Most Cole fans are not Drake fans.

Tired cliche talking point. You don't mess with Drake don't act like you speak for all Cole stans. I know males and females huge Cole fans who mess with Drake heavy. These nikkas are tight, early collaborators, a lot of their fan base intermixed from the '09 wave of mixtapes and magazine/blog promo.

This is indeed a valid point. I think it's part of why Drake leans so heavily on bandwagoning the latest hip hop trendy artist and try to remain relevant through hit singles. J. Cole is the complete opposite as he becomes more recluse yet gets bigger. J. Cole shuns away from a media push... haven't done any interviews or nothing. But he's maybe arguably the 2nd biggest artist next to Drake as of right now. And that's basically mainly due to an undying core fanbase.

Take Care did 631k first week and 2m260k overall.

Despite being more famous and bigger 2 years later,

NWTS did 658k first week (not that big of an improvement) and 1m700k overall. (Significantly less than Take Care)

The mixtape he dropped did even less. Actually Forest Hills Drive outsold IYRTITL.

The numbers were dropping because his Core Fanbase has been shrinking, and when I say core, I mean the early fans.

Views he went full pop, no exceptions and it sold the most he's sold ever. Not because he has more core fans but because he's pop now.

So let me get this straight

When Cole becomes a bigger and more promoted artist, all the new fans and sales that come along with that are ALL considered "core early fans" even though they're jumping on the bandwagon in 2016.

But all the new fans Drake has are fake non core pop fans.

I agree with ur thread but the same people listen to both. Albeit for different reasons. I will say a lot die hard Drake fans aren't die hard Cole fans and vice versa. A lot of the time they will be a big fan of one and a casual fan of the other.
