The anti-Drake? What? No, he wasn't find a source where he's being called that. I know Drake was pop he always was but he was still thought of a hip-hop artist even with the haters. Him, Cole, Wale, Kendrick. That class was believed to have rejuvenated hip-hop and according to dudes like DJ Premier, brought back lyricism.

If the fact that they cross promote and regularly appear at each other's tours don't tell you nothing I don't know what will.

Yeah, they on some different shyt now but y'all seem to think that because you listen to conscious Cole tracks you can't listen to some of Drake's pop tracks. Don't put it in a box, young people who came of age during those mixtape days tend to be fans of both of these nikkas.
u must be young, they were being pitted against each other early in they career so much that they had to say they had no problem wit each other in a bunch of interviews. They really don't have the same fan base like that

I vividly remember when they first came out. Yeah they were compared. Still at each other's tours, still do cross promotion, still have songs together. A lot of Cole fans are Drake fans and vice versa.

Where? Every Cole fan I know fukks with Drake heavy in real life. Cole bringing this nikka Drake at concerts to standing ovations.

It's not just females breh stop tryna pigeonhole shyt

It's funny how the coli pushes the narrative that most rappers are hot because of females and artists make music for females nowadays and that why it's been watered down etc when the majority of music I've been put onto is from men and I see men talk about rappers more than I do females sooo

Anybody tryna shyt on the threadstarter obviously doesn't get where he comes from. Noone said J Cole has more fans. He said CORE fans. Meaning people who gonna be there to cop regardless. When everything is said and done. Drake is a pop star and pop fans are fickle as fukk. So when Drake's light starts to dim. shyt will fizzle out for him at a faster rate. Meanwhile J Cole can just run in place with his core fanbase.
This.

They are both winning

So to make it a Cole vs Drake situation is unfair to Cole. Cole has a nitch market that he controls. Drake is more of a pop artist now in the sense he feeds off vibes vs starting them now. Unfair to both. Let them be great!

Only by internet counterculturalists. This is why nobody has brought up sources but everybody (including me) remembers it. The coli itself is a hotbed for such type of discussion, remember that over anything else. internet nikkas try to pit drake against anybody including Kendrick, big sean etc.

imo The most overlap is in their female fans. They share some male fans but Cole's male fans are younger "real hip hop not that bullshyt on the radio" types. They were the ones that held him down from the warm up - sideline story era. When Cole successfully crossed over into the mainstream with Born Sinnner his music started getting more female friendly and he started getting lots of female fans in the albums following that. That was pretty much where he made the leap from B to A list in my eyes

Duke they wasn't even fukkin wit each other like that till he REMADE "In The Morning" on Friday Night Lights. Cause the original didn't even have Drake on it. Drake was already a star by the time Cole was getting his foot in the door. And nikkas was very much pitting him against Drake at the time. I don't know what ur age is but I'm 30+ and grown enough to remember this shyt like it was yesterday.

It's not a narrative. It's the truth. If u know how music gets promoted and the channels it has to go thru these days u would understand. Ask any DJ worth a damn.

My nikka the original wouldn't have Drake on it he didn't know him at the time nobody did outside of some minor industry figures. It's a Come Up era track. Cole was still in college at the time they probably didnt meet till they became industry '09-'10ish.

I know they was comparing them and calling Cole the next Nas or what not I remember all that shyt. Who doesn't get compared? Of course they was gonna compare these two biracial simp rappers. Yeah, Drake was bigger that has nothing to do with the fact that Cole and Drake have a lot of the same fans. shyt isn't rocket science. Again, they do cross promotion, they appear at each other's tours, they've done songs together, OVO has placements on J. Cole's new album. They are around the same age and adored by women and everyday young nikkas.

I know a lot of these types a lot of them appreciate Drake's album cuts, the shyt before trapper Drake. Comeback Season to Nothing Was The Same Drake. The Joe Budden type Drake stans.

I think people forget Drake was painted as the bridge from the underground to the mainstream back then.

"What up Little Bro, what up Slum Vill I hope y'all know y'all the reason I have fun still"

"I came up in the underground dog, so Ima spend another $10,000 for Dilla"

A lot of heads and old school artist praised and some still praise Drake even through the ghostwriting controversy.

There's an argument to be made that J Cole absolutely sucks.

Compared to Drake. One writes his own music, does his own music, and created his career literally from the ground up. The other doesn't write his own music, have a team of writers and producers, and bought his way into the industry.

Which one sucks? You can actually witness the fan growth from J. Cole since The Warm Up. Drake, on the other hand has established a mainstream audience from the jump that same year.... and payola have to be questioned as to how.
