As far as AEW PPV go this was pretty weak. How was the show overall?
Cookout and lots of drinking made sure I couldn’t catch any of it last night.
I was fully expecting to shyt on that battle royale like basically every other one I've watched. Didn't necessarily agree with how early some were eliminated or that Big Bill lasted as long as he did, but having a Swerve vs. OC square-off to end it was great. Sets up an eventual match between them two and was a very good spot to highlight Swerve, which they absolutely NEED to run with.Helluva kick off. Didn’t expect to feel a battle royale.
Lotta small touches and call backs.
I think a lot of people outside of a place like TSC were just ready for Jade to lose. 59-0 is great and all but all 59 were basically mediocre to bad matches with a lot of squash matches, which becomes increasingly hard to sell in AEW with every passing match when there isn't some top-notch storytelling to go with it.The crowd wanted Jade to lose. My wife and I were the only ones that weren't cheering when Statlander won. They were ready to pop for Taya.
He can’t stand on his own. He needs to join Bullet Club Gold since The Elite got too many rotating mofos rn and no telling when KOR is getting back.I loved Adam Cole in NXT and ROH but I think in AEW/WWE the lights might just be too bright for him. The only high-quality singles matches he's had since leaving NXT have been two against Hangman and neither one of those were like 5-star level matches by any means. And it hasn't been for lack of other quality opponents as he's faced Jungle Boy (who is capable of good matches like last night showed), Dax, Orange Cassidy, Jay Lethal, Ishii, Christian, Trent, Samoa Joe, and Daniel Garcia. He even managed to have merely an above average match in a three-way with Jay White and Okada.

He'd be a good fit in Bullet Club Gold if they can figure out a way to turn him heel that makes sense. Or just put him in the tag team scene with Roddy for the time being. He can’t stand on his own. Lol Adam Cole has been the exact same whether heel or face the past decade. Same with The Bucks. He'd be a good fit in Bullet Club Gold if they can figure out a way to turn him heel that makes sense. Or just put him in the tag team scene with Roddy for the time being.
