exactly..you have to hurt the champion..you gotta fight to take his title..im really failing to understand why that concept is being diluted in today's boxing to potshots and excessive movement

Because a lot of fighters today look for moral victories from dumb fans.. especially if they'rethe underdog.. They know that if they do just enough to make the fight close fans will always cry robbery.. For further proof look at 95% of title fights that go to decision and its decided by a round or 2.. you will see nothing but nighas crying robbery.. Fighters aren't dumb.. Scull knew as long as he survived the fight as the underdog he would still get credit.

It's not like dudes are retreating for the sake of setting up another shot or being defensively sound like in a Bhop way

They're literally circling and refusing to engage their opponent in any distinct manner. It's completely unwatchable

You'd think that if you were a fighter with a little to no fan base you would make sure that you didn't do that for yourself because the odds of being showcased on another main event are slim to none.

Its just a new school mentality. Somebody like Scull probably figures. Why put it all on the line when I can just keep it conservative and safe.. If they lose at least their body and chin is preserved and they get a huge payday from Saudi... vs potentially making a classic fight or going for a dominant performance with the risk that comes with it

He always wants to blame the opponent for not engaging when this happens. Been watching him for 15 years.

Yep, Canelo couldn't cut off the ring or slow Scull down in ay meaningful way. I'm not a fan of what Scull did but this was supposed to be Canelo's show, the onus was on him to really put on a performance, he did not.

Miguel Cotto was great at that too. It was slow and nobody would confuse him for Pernell Whitaker. But he made a concerted effort to retreat reset and go forward.
