That's the whole point breh. Lakers weren't gonna improve with or without Kobe. Lakers weren't landing any free agents in those summers either. So Kobe's contract didn't stop or stall the Lakers from being contenders.
I gotta figure Dwight would've at least stayed being the #1 man. But yeah that Lakers FO is bad enough that the would've squandered that money

bytch boy Deron Williams should be on this list for being a 20 million dollar man and scoring 0 points in a playoff game.

Omer Asik, Demarre Carroll, Iman Shumpert, Tristian Thompson, Kevin Love should be the new 5 :laff:

i seem to remember the Blazers giving Darius Miles a terrible contract

in his defense, D. Miles potential was crazy.....and ended up with a near career ending injury.

:russ: @ the Blazers getting caught trying to intimidate teams from signing him so they wouldn't have to pay out the rest of that deal.

How isn't jerome james on the list? I know the money he got isn't really the same but he literally did NOTHING.
isnt he the one that went off that one series with the Sonics than got paid big money bc of it :russ:

the Rashard Lewis signing was crazy. Joe Johnson's 2nd contrat with the Hawks was crazy that was the year where a lot of stars were free agents the year James and Bosh went to Miami. Hawks front office made a desperate move to keep a player whos not a superstar.

the Josh Smith contract wasnt bad it was just a horrible fit with the Pistons already having a young front court of Drummond and Monroe.

I disagree with that list...well maybe Shard and Josh Smith. But if you look at Shard and Josh as compared what players get now, and the other 3 as opposed to 90s. JO was 20, 10 &2, Agent 0 was 25-30-6-6, JJ 22-5-5. They put up way better numbers than those players current getting max deals.

These are more like terrible deals in hindsight though. Most of these cats fell due to injury, and were given the contracts when it was reasonable to expect them to improve from that point on (probably with Joe being the exception). It's hard to predict in life, much less sports, what will happen multiple years into the future.

I wanna see the list of players who were given contracts that we all knew damn well from the beginning weren't going to live up to it. Like Austin Croshere or Jerome James, or the one Demarre Carroll just got.

I don't agree with Jermaine O'Neal being on the list. If Artest and Captain Jack didn't run in the stands, they might have won the title in 2005.

Yeah...and, him slidin' dude with THE POWER OF GREYSKULL caught on tape
for future generations to witness was worth the millions of dollars he was given.
