What are you talking about? when people say an artist's independent, it means that they are not on a major label.
Tech N9ne is actually independent, cause his label is not owned by a major label. Strange Music Records is owned by Strange Music Inc. But G Unit Records is owned by Universal so 50's not independent. Same way Kanye on Def Jam isn't independent, since Def Jam is owned by Universal also
