I get what your saying. I agree somewhat, I think Jay deserves his props and he's still in my top 5... but artists he's been close with or behind them ones are getting further away from him. K-Rino, Nas, KRS just getting further and further away from him on my own personal list and others are catching up. Rakim needs one more very good album probably to get that spot to me. I realize all this is personal but others feel similar. I've noticed the Jay and Nas debates Nas is winning easy now, was closer before. I don't think it should take anything away for him but I think it stagnates him.
thats what these stans dont realise. no one would call you a jay hater by any means. but how can jays last 3 projects compare to Life IS Good, Nasty, Triple Beam Dreams. Nas dropping dope albums and songs and features. when was the last undeniable jay moment? its all connected to someone esle, whethe kanye, wife, another artist.

post black album jay was the goat to me, or at least an undeniable candidate and i had him ahead of nas at that point, but nas has lapped him now breh. its not even a fair comparison anymore.

listen to a song like dont u know. its not his best, but the playfulness with words, ryhme patterns, flows, >>>>>>anything jay did in thelast decade. and that was a throwawy song for prime jay. if u cant see thedecline i cant really tell you anything.

this is all fuzzy reasoning.

the beatles never fell off breh. thats why they are legends. their decade long run was classic after classic, innovating and evolving along the way. was no fall off.

MJ i would argue never fell off either. he may have with the public and media, but his voice was still magic and i still fxed with invincible. was no fall off for the goat.

mariah still sings great, i prefer her newer ish to that clive davis packaged whitney appeal to cacs music she was doing when she first bowed in the game.

and i am not talking about sales, i am talking quality of material. clearly jay is still relevant sales wise but in the art of rhyming and making compelling rap music? tom ford? holy grail? timberlake bodying him on his own song? come on.

BP3, WTT, MCHG, jay was the weakest on these albums, and was carried by in their prime stars. Alicia Keys, Kanye, Timberlake, Ross. Jay just phoning it in.
Breh, the second you get over yourself...you will begin to understand. The basic point is simple. A legend's status is not removed if their subsequent work fails to reach their peak. It has never been the case in music or in any other category of life. You have to do some off the wall shyt. If you find me a counter argument, then I'll consider your point. But there isn't one. I'm not really going to waste my time with the rest of your "this person never fell off shyt" because like the rest of what you're saying...it's entirely contrary to any informed or popular opinion. I'll wait for that example of someone who has had a decade of being great suddenly losing that status because the second decade wasn't as great as the first. I'll wait. Ice Cube hasn't had an album worth mentioning in a decade and he's still a top 10 caliber emcee.

will you admit nas is still putting out dope work? lets compare jay and nas then. nas came out before jay and is doing better work in his old years.

Yeah no doubt, can't be a Jay hater when I rate him so highly, often have defended him when people say he's overrated and all this stuff, cause he HAS put his work in, you look at D'evils, Can't Knock The Hustle, Brooklyn's Finest, You Must Love Me, Girls Girls Girls, Meet The Parents etc. He has mad classic songs and he's a great MC. I actually liked Blueprint 3 but I thought MCHG was trash... said in the sense it's throwaway, and what's fukked up he had some very good beats.... but he didn't deliver as an MC at all on the majority of the records, Somewhere In America was a dope beat and he ruined it with some nonsense, Uncle Murder killed the beat better than him and that's a bit embarrassing. It felt like a product not an album. I listen to the lyrics as well as the music and he just wasn't bringing it at all, it was sloppy, he would have a few decent bars then fukk it up, it's unlistenable to me, and I was excited when I heard it was droppin, with all the hype I expected a great possibly even classic album and have been extremely let down. I liked Jay's feature on the Jay Electronica song, I thought it was very dope, but his feature work recently has been sub standard to me too. While like you said Nas dropped Life Is Good, Distant Relatives etc, and both of them are probably both better than Jay's last two. And Nas was already ahead of me, same with KRS-One, he's been droppin mad shyt, K-Rino has dropped incredible fantastic albums, sometimes 3 a year.... so he's pushing way above Jay to me too. Others are gonna catch Jay at this rate. I know huge Jay fans that think he's GOAT that didn't like that last album. One of them is a close friend and a Hip Hop head and he said something like "I wasn't feeling it but I don't think it's possible at this point to release a completely bad album" which is reasonable, BBC song was cool, and it wasn't the worst thing in the world by far but for Jay it was very very poor, probably his worst ever album to me. The shyt he's talking about is mundane too while Nas, KRS, K-Rino etc have something substantive to say. If Cormega keeps droppin dope shyt he could surpass Jay too lol.

The argument about the Beatles make sense at the same time it doesn't.

The Beatles and most of their contemporaries like The Doors stopped putting out music a long time ago, Jay is still putting out music, and so is Nas. People aren't saying that they forget Jays previous work, only that some of his competitors he used to be neck and neck with have gone past him in terms of output.

prime 50 was always a better artist than prime Jay. When was Jays prime? Blueprint? So he got destroyed by gnauze during his prime, 50 during his prime (GRODT) destoryed entire record labels, and made the camel go into retirement.
