Another millennial doomer who is waiting for the downfall of everyone else even though he was doing better than 90% of people on paper because HE fell off.

Owns multiple properties and peaked at 150k income, none of these people save for a rainy day with this income?
Saving ain't gonna help when you got way more going out than coming it. That savings gets eaten up very fast

As one of those who sent out lots of applications at several points in his life and a tech worker whos been fired and laid off more than I hope you ever know... who hurt you?
Which IT guy or girl told you to turn if off and back on and it didn't work?

This isn't the flex you think. Honestly I'm not sure why you are so happy to see tech workers lose their jobs when we have much more deserving scumbags working in hedge funds and politics and the c level in business who deserve it.

Everyone will have their day, but let me tell you why I'm gonna laugh at situations like this

When I started working for myself, I also worked random available shifts for a local driving company. Made surprisingly good money, and it helped me with going solo

Uber starts up and a conversation emerges revolving around automated cars putting not only Uber drivers, but everybody in the driving industry out of work.

All the techies applauded their coming revolution and couldn't wait to watch movies on their commutes. They had no compassion for the livelihoods of those who would lose work.

The common theme was "evolve or die", learn new skills or starve in the new economy

Over 10 yrs later.....

Look who's being put out of work.

Look who doesn't have the skills to survive in this new economy

I have no sympathy

Who is all? You're labeling people. You realize that this eye for an eye stuff does nothing but make everyone blind right? Im sure there were many who showed compassion and empathy for those drivers who would be out of work but you're so focused on the people who hated on you that you're blind to it.

Love how people say "I sent out 800 applications and only 10 answered" like that's indicative of the job market

No

It's a reflection of yourself. So many people out here slacking off at work, calling off whenever, doing a half ass job. Then they get fired and wonder why no one else in that profession will hire you

They won't hire you cause your reputation precedes itself. No one takes responsibility for they fukk ups anymore.

Also, :pacspit:to every last tech worker who gets laid off, you all were cheering the rise of automated cars and celebrating people being laid off, evolve or die they said

Guess what tech people

Evolve or die :russ:
man what the fukk do y'all be talking about on here

I don't recall seeing any compassion or empathy

It was "we used to have milkmen, but that went out of business, so the milkmen had to adjust and move into different careers. Evolve or die"

"They should have got an education"

"Learn new skills or die like the dinosaurs"

I know software engineers in real life and they are all pompous, arrogant a$$holes who think they're smarter than anybody who they perceive makes less money.

Automation and AI were supposed to eliminate all the low level paying jobs, from fast food to warehouses, and no one in your industry had concerns about the welfare of these people being pushed out of work

Reality is these jobs are way harder and not worth the cost to automate than previously thought, it's the computer workers and liberal arts people who's work is so damn simple the computer can do it without you. You all literally trained your replacements thinking it would impact the next person, not yourself

U had software engineers employed by Microsoft/Facebook who did YouTube videos bragging about how they don't hardly do anything all day and make all this money. Waking up 3 hours early cause u work in California and report to a base in Virginia is a "stressful day"

So since so many of you are so goddamn smart, shouldn't have problems learning new skills and thriving correct :mjlol:

Good majority of u techies have no other skills in life outside of the piece of paper u went to school for

They plan to replace all of you within 5 yrs

This is what y'all asked for, people being put out of work due to AI

No sympathy

I'm laughing at the tears

Tech is weird.

You can have two people with the exact same degree and job title.....but vastly different experiences depending on the projects they've done, programs they're experts using etc.

One guy can be completely fukked while the other is set for life.

Seems like the one industry where you have to constantly evolve and that isn't always enough.

Yes the piece of paper we went to school for lol. People in tech are continuously learning to stay relevant. Even if we get laid off we would just learn another occupation quickly and ramp up. The fact you called the degrees or certifications we have a piece of paper shows your inherent jealousy. No one is stopping you from achieving that yourself or any other occupation. The fact of the matter is skilled trades are hard to come by. A driver is not. Tech people are smart and can pivot to whatever field they want to. But honestly I did not wish for people to lose their jobs to automation. There are others who felt the same. Efficiency does not always mean better quality of life. That's what big tech fails to understand at times. So I understand your grievances but I think they are misplaced.

I run my own business

There's a very good chance I make more than you by a good amount

So please stop with the new age coping wave of calling anyone who criticizes you jealous.

U know how aggravating it is living around people who thumb their nose at anyone without a college degree, when they make less than I do? Live in the same neighborhood, my house and cars paid for. Mr. Degree over here struggling with his mortgage and car notes. U not better than anybody simply because you got a degree, I'm basically retired and only work certain weekends in party/festival environents, why in the world would I want to go to school? I won

And here u go again, throwing a sly diss at truck drivers and others who drive for a living. They still hiring like crazy so I guess they are kind of hard to come by. I work sometimes as a private driver, professional with a suit and tie. Make over 100 an hr doing that for dedicated customers, and that's a side job. People pay for good work

If tech people are so smart, why are we having a conversation in a thread about one of your own being forced to Uber+door dash while he lives in a trailer. Yeah that sounds real fukking smart :martin:

Don't get me wrong , your speaking in a polite manner, but you're also displaying the same arrogance and looking down at people mannerisms that I'm speaking against

Remember when they said all the workers at McDonald's would be fired and I just need someone to maintain the machines? Nope, didn't work. They getting rid of all u overpaid techies, and u watch what I say. In 5 yrs, their just gonna need someone in your offices maintaining the computers, your skills will be irrelevant.

U all wanted to computers to replace people

Well they are gonna replace u first

And my blue collar self will laugh at the upcoming techies crying about work

Remember the milkman

No, CS market really is like this. Especially on the west coast.

Even before the recent layoffs it wasn't uncommon to send 100 out before getting an interview. It was always a notoriously competitive field.

A big issue is ghost jobs. A lot of those positions are scammers stealing data to feed ai or sell. Also hr teams send out unreasonable expectations so they can return to USCIS and say there is a labor shortage to get h1bs. And finally you have recruiters that like to keep back pocket applicants to feed their clients. The end result is a tiny portion of real applications for real jobs surrounded by fakes.

Thal last paragraph makes the industry sound evil, scamming and stealing data to feed ai from job applications :picard:
