Honestly I'd leave the Souf and go right back to LA or go to Miami/NY/San Fran if I could find an apartment that cheap
but once you get to the $1000 to sub-$1000 range it's basically just:
Senior living
Low Income Housing
or
Subletting
All of which I either no longer qualify for, currently don't qualify for or would never entertain in the first place.

'Cuse, New York
You can get a better-looking apartment, with a full bathroom, kitchen, living room, and bedroom for somewhere around that price or slightly more in 'Cuse :mjlol:.

$650/month rent is 2003 money. Current minimum wage in New York is $17/hr.

So what were you saying again?
So a person making $17/hr in NYC paying $650 in rent + Utilities + Groceries + Dining Out + Phone + Internet + Transportation + Insurance + Misc.

They are saving how much a month again? So much money that they would have a shyt ton to invest?

I dont see why they couldn't do all of that on $2000/month and still save. NY you don't need a car, so no worry of car note, parking, gas, insurance, or maintenance. What utilities are they paying in an 80SF room?? Phone and internet only $100 at most. $100/month for public transportation.

What else do you need?

And remember, that's only assuming they are making minimum wage. Anybody making $25+ is eating good, which is a reasonable wage in New York.

It’s always amazed me how far transplants willing to go just to be able to say they live in manhattan :mjlol:

Like go to Brooklyn or Queens and you’ll find something that’s up to living standards that doesn’t cost manhattan prices

I mean it's a prime location and folks aren't moving there to be inside all day. You go home to shower, eat, sleep and shyt. You probably don't plan to spend more than 2 waking hours in there a day.

That’s fine in the summer, what about colder months when everyone is bundled inside

Plus you shyt and shower in the restroom down the hallway that’s shareable with other tenants :scusthov:

No kitchen to cook, wouldn’t want to eat takeout everyday even if I was rich

To each its own, you might as well rent a room in bk or queens in actual apartment with living room, kitchen and bathroom

Yeah some people okay with sharing bathrooms. You did it if you played on team sports, you did it in some colleges, you did it if you were in the military, you do it if you go to the gym, not really a big deal if you been in those kinds of environments.

New York doesn't really get cold like that. It's no -30 days out there. You're still fine outside and can find places to lounge if you want to, toughen up.

She had a stove, a microwave and a place to wash dishes. She could cook if she wanted to. The sink wouldn't be that far from where she eats so washing dishes is a lot easier.

I could definitely see the appeal over being out the way in Queens in something bigger. Like why make the choice to move to NY to be out the way and if you're so concerned about space? Move somewhere else.

I almost paid for a room in a house where the russian are in BK. And dude had a dog. I like dogs and all but stay outside.
