Certifications are based on the cumulative sales/streaming of the songs on your album whenever in time they happen. That is if you drop a single today and release your album in a year, the streaming between now and the release of your album will be counted towards your certifications. Sales/Soundscan on the other hand counts your sales/steaming from the day your album is released. Obviously Riaa has to change this.

So Montana has songs that had been steaming for 3 years some of which not even his songs put on his album for the certification, but only moved like 20k. Nicki did the same shyt. Put 69s song as a bonus on her album after the albums release, just for clout on Instagram.
