I wanted to join the Air Force years ago. Even PMed @Marc Spector a barrage of dumb inquires. But I've decided to go back to school to finish my bachelors (doing WGU instead of a traditional college to graduate quickly) and then come in as an officer. Looking to do some volunteer work on the side as well while in school (i.e.: feeding the homeless, doing community service) to pad my OCS packet.

Against many people's advice I will be pursuing the army instead of the air force as I'm mainly interested in becoming a green beret. Will be using the time from now until I graduate to properly prepare myself for that. (started doing HIIT, running)

Call me crazy but I'd rather be doing something 'meaningful' than a boring, mundane, soul-draining 6-figure job.
I'd say leave that shyt GB shyt alone but you're on a good path and if it works out even better for you :ehh: the mundane shyt is fr ASS and I still haven't adjusted to it as a civilian yet

The average Vietnamese soldier was like 130lbs. Heavier/taller Americans still lost.

Smaller soldiers are probably better if you think about it. Smaller targets, need less food/water. Can carry more on transports.

Muscle don’t stop bullets.

yeah US had to use alot of 5'4" and shorter American guys to fight in the tunnels in Vietnam, alot of them were Irish

What if first world countries made military service for 2 years mandatory and then used them to build shyt for the homeless, do work that's typically done by volunteers, etc. It would cost a lot but at the same time you would instill a culture of discipline, mental toughness, service (both to the country and to the less fortunate), excercise and portion control, etc.

Even if it's not mandatory, they could implement a similar structure with a system of incentives instead.

They overstating this shyt.
It's really hard for me to digest that. I'm a vet and I was passing the APFT as heavy as 240.

This what I'm worried about because of my past antidepressant use. My counselor who I currently see once a month said he would write a letter of support I could give to my recruiter if that will help.

Military docs at MEPS don't give a fukk about your civilian counselor. :manny: Your recruiter doesn't determine if you need a medical waiver or not, nor are they the agency that writes them: if them MEPCON docs think you're not worth it, they won't bother and your unrealistic dream of enlisting as an oldhead ends there.

They'll make their own diagnoses for everything you have going on that they can find and will ask for supporting documentation if they feel it's necessary.

Anything that they find out after the fact that they allege you withheld can be used against you as evidence of a fraudulent enlistment, which violates the UCMJ and can see you kicked out the military and even sent to prison (aka confinement).

The new acft let's dudes basically walk. Apft is still the only thing currently used for promotion so a lot of army dudes are stuck between a rock and a hard place because of the run.

breh, if a 5'10" 240 lb dude with flat feet, tendinitis in both posterior tibial tendons and Achilles tendons, with a high grade stress fracture in his lower left leg can pass then what excuse does anyone else have?

1) People are physically lazy as hell nowadays, in and outside the military.

2) A lot of units don't stress PT like that anymore. Hella units don't do unit PT.

3) The dudes/dudettes tryna be operators don't have these issues; it's the regular forces that do.

this is not true at all young people have been eating fast food for the last 50+ years,
the only difference is they had more physical activity.
Look at the size of a hamburger/fries/coke meal in 1960 versus today. There's no comparison. You get a medium soda and it's approaching 32 oz today. Back in the old days, at best you're getting 12oz in a bottle.

Shyt look at bananas. There are a ton of varieties of banana but Americans only eat one kind. Go to Africa/Asia and you'll see all kinds variations that we don't have.

Same with bread. All the passport gang brehs talk about how bread here is "sweet" tasting compared to overseas. I'd bet 1950 loaf of bread wasn't full of sugar compared to now.

If I was China I would prepare and just move in about 5 years . World war 3 shyt just Chinese soldiers Parachuteing in
China demographic issue is way worse than ours. The US if needed will offer green cards and citizenship to foreigners that serve the arm forces. One of my dad's friends who was a doctor in Latin America became an army field medic during Vietnam and was offered citizenship and med school paid in the US
