What problem are you trying to solve? Because this gets deep as hell. However this facts will always remain a country needs a fighting force. You aren’t really respected unless you have a fighting force or you are just food to feed off of (resources).
The fighting force needs to be capable of surviving against foreign and domestic threats. How can you capably do that if the youth are weak, injury prone, or have moral issues?
Seem to me it’s a pretty pertinent issue. Do we as a people really want to force the population embrace heath and nutrition or would we just lie issue a pill and convince everyone that they are ok even if they aren’t.
It's about going back to basics aka what the right wants to call 'socialism'. I do not think that America shouldn't have a military, but I do think that domestic fukkery limits its combat capability. Kids aren't getting quality physical education when the right wants to turn public schools into for-profit institutions by cutting their funding while encouraging parents to home school kids. Homeschooling your kids is even an impossible task when both parents need to work because of the rising costs of childcare, mortgages, rent. etc. which the right wants to do nothing about.
People are rationing out insulin and spending ridiculous amounts of money on prescription medication and the right is cool with that state of affairs, and in fact wants to encourage deregulation. Why? because they stand to gain if the stock price of a pharmaceutical company goes up. They have money tied up in that.
They're gutting consumer protection agencies so companies can pollute, and sell products that have substances in them that are banned in other countries because of the harm they do. It's cheaper for those companies and they can report stable/high profits. They of course have shares in the companies doing harm. They aren't encouraging green technology which gives us better air to breathe and
prevents illness. In fact, they want to fight any efforts at sustainability and clean energy why? because they have financial interests tied up in these multinational energy companies. They're refusing to remove lead and asbestos from buildings(which leads to developmental disabilities and physical/mental disabilities) in the inner city because black people live there,
and because they don't want to spend the tax money doing that when they can give tax breaks to people who are gentrifying the city. You guessed it, they have stock in construction companies and private equity firms too. They're refusing to reform the criminal justice system because there is a financial incentive for them not to if they own shares in these private prison companies. They're refusing to curb gun violence because they get paid from the NRA and have stocks in arms manufacturing companies too.
America was 'great' when people made enough money to actually buy homes and have kids. When a man could work 40hrs a week with a high school education and save enough money for his children to go to college and his wife could stay at home if she wanted to. America was 'great' when kids could go to public school and get a quality education that was in the top 5 best in the world. America was 'great' when a college degree wouldn't bankrupt you. America was 'great' when you could at least be somewhat sure that you weren't getting microplastics in your food, and PFAs in your cookware. America was 'great' when you could get a family doctor easily because more money was going into the medical system. America was 'great' when you could sleep at night because the city was built for people and not cars and you could get good quality reliable public transportation. The conservatives we have now are absolute
frauds. They don't give a shyt about families, they don't care about national security, and they don't care about their own constituents. They care about one thing only : making as much money as possible and then dying old and rich as fukk like George Bush sr. and Ronald Regan did.
You're right that this runs deep, but what I'm saying is that by addressing those things and getting money and the lobbyists out of politics, we will have a healthier, better educated, and overall just plain
stronger population. Encouraging American unity by telling the truth about racism and healing creates a national identity and reduces friction between people who may be serving together in the same unit. Encouraging better city design and reasonable public policy measures will lead to an explosion in family sizes and more potential recruits.
