The Arsenal
these people have media outlets dedicated to disseminating their warped views and they're still bytching about not being able to express themselves. the problem is they want it accepted outside of their bubble and people aren't interested in hearing it so they cry about political correctness. they don't seem to be afraid to profess their love of pedophilia in this roy moore story gong on right now. faux news, breitbart, the federalist, washington examiner and we're all hearing it loud and clear but yet in their minds they're being silenced. people not liking what you have to say doesn't mean you are being silenced.

A lot of times, I find that people who are "afraid" to voice their opinion feel shouted down when you point out their wrong (see Sam Harris vs Ezra Klein). They'll cry about political correctness then wear it as a shield against honest discussions which would requiring acknowledging truths such as racial biases, systemic issues and obvious historical context. Some opinions are wrong and the heads I see complain about the PC police the most tend to only want positive reinforcement.

Are opinions ever wrong? Don't you mean evil or detrimental?

Nah, if your opinion is that immigrants are more likely to commit crime than citizens...we have the numbers and you're wrong. Once we do the "opinions can't ever be wrong" ish, people use that to create debates around topics that have been resolved sometimes for long periods of time (ie: Jordan Peterson's can women and men share a workplace diatribe).

We actually don't have all the numbers. Crime stats are very unreliable. Only reported crimes are part of the story. If you commit a crime and it goes unreported/you get away with it, it isn't part of 'the numbers'. And crime reporting itself is biased. If a cop commits a crime it is less likely to be reported as such compared to a regular citizen. So bad example.
And I do believe opinions can't be wrong. Unless you are trying to pass misinformation that contradicts a fact as an opinion. There's nothing wrong with long debates.

I was pretty sure my point which you paraphrased well in the bolded section was clear but we're in agreement there. I'm curious on the immigration tip though, do you have data that suggests they're MORE likely to commit crimes or are you just saying we don't have ALL of the data therefore it's still an open debate regardless of the current data pointing largely to one conclusion?

Yeah, it is still an open debate. And the stat is not a constant and the variables not even agreed upon. What constitutes an immigrant? Illegal immigrants only? Both legal and illegal immigrants? You can even technically call everyone not indigenous an immigrant.

Okay, so here's where we differ. To start, I'll point to the entire sections on Crime and Crime Rate which cite multiple studies (too long to quote here).

https://www.nap.edu/read/21746/chapter/9#326

Point being there is a body of evidence (dare I say growing?) that all points to one conclusion. Do we have answers to every single question? Not exactly but the methodology will give you an idea of how these researchers defined immigrants in their respective studies and regardless, their conclusions are uniform. In order to make a claim that immigrants are MORE likely to commit crime; I would expect you to provide supporting evidence in a similar manner and then we could at least dive into what differences in methodology are causing the results to be so varied. I think to have an honest debate, you need to support your claim with some kind of evidence.
