in terms of the east coast, my vote goes to the '80s.
I feel like '90s east coast abandoned some of the elements of the '80s, basically opening the doors for other coasts to take their spot,
on the overall, I gotta go with the '90s cuz there were more different sub-genres and we had a lot more stars from all over the map.
I was born in 1998 so my opinion may be skewed to some
I've listened to 80s rappers and their rhymes sound really basic to me, no offense
People shyt on the new nikkas but the 80s dudes were spitting nursery rhymes for real, like I KNOW I could write something better, so it baffles me how people say the 80s were the "golden age"
The 90s definitely had hard rappers though, but the 80s seem really overrated to me
lyricists in the '80s were more advanced than most of the lyrical guys of today.
the '80s stuff you listened to, is either rappers that weren't considered lyrical or youre just listening with a closed mind.
also, a lot of the '90s rappers that get propped up by purists, really weren't that lyrical.
