I remember looking forward to the Mr. McMahon tribute episode that night, because of fukkery potential. Had even avoided all wrestling sites I frequented till the moment the show started, so nothing would be spoiled. Right as I was logging into a forum I posted on for years and entered the wrestling section, I saw the headline about Benoit and his family. Shocked, I turned my head towards my TV, only to see the in memorium graphic on the screen followed by Vince standing in the ring, with the arena behind him empty. The next few hours were all full of shock and confusion at what happened, with everyone on that site and others mourning the losses. Throughout the night, it started to change, as more news came out slowly that it wasn't something like a gas leak or a freak accident, like a lot of people there rationalized. It was starting to seem more and more like he did it, until finally confirmation came out. By the next morning it was official what happened and I remember Vince was on good morning America to discuss it. The whole thing was really bizarre, just the feeling surrounding it all. It didn't even seem real, with how sudden and swiftly it took place. Then seeing wrestlers all over news networks added to that bizarre feeling. I remember flipping between CNN and Fox News on any given night for a little while and seeing a wide variety of guys, like Marc Mero, Kevin Nash, Fit Finlay, John Cena, and Chris Jericho, just to name a few, all commenting on the subject and steroids and the like. I remember how the Jackass crew was supposed to be involved at Summerslam that summer but they dropped out due to what happened. News was going around that the government was gonna be regulating and monitoring drug tests in both WWE and TNA. It was a real crazy time to be a fan. And I can't even imagine what the surviving relatives and family members went through and felt and still feel to this day, having to deal with what happened. RIP to Nancy and Daniel.
