No Limit definitely had some talent but the music overall was wack and they lacked star power. Props to P tho for pulling off the biggest hustle ever becuz most of that roster didn’t even deserve a deal. The best move they ever made was signing Snoop and that goes both ways

if master P and mystikal weren’t stars then what is a star?

No Limit had dozens of acts over the years and only 2 became stars as a result. Snoop was already a star. They most definitely lacked star power and were production driven for the most part which became obvious after Beats By the Pound left

Even Jay Z and Jaz O bit that shyt. I might be wrong but I think Das Efx was the precursor to rhyming fast in hip hop. Early Twista when he had Tung in the front was biting off Das Efx heavy. Now that I think about it they changed hip hop and barely get credit
Jaz and Jay-Z was out before them. Twista was before them too

Is that Horse? It must be i heard he husky
Facts. nikka had the nerve to be on some child ass homotional bytch shyt because a lot of us aren’t in this illusion that No Limit had some bomb ass talent :mjlol: No Limit was one of the prototypes for today’s Rap talent. They music do be crankin at times but at the end of the day, a strong number of them are basura on the mic.
Facts. Starting from Silkk The Shocka to Skulldruggery to Master P, all of them nikkaz was inept on the mic, the only one with skill was Mystikal at times

The Pharcyde was kind of seen as a joke group because of "Passing Me By" and "Yo Mama", which were moderate hits.

Mobb Deep blew up off the backs of Biggie & Nas in '94-'95. Now, they weren't Bone Thugs or Outkast levels of big, but New York/East Coast big.
I would disagree that the Pharcyde was seen as a joke group. They were definitely different, but they always seemed well respected. Particularly when they came back with the second album.

I would also disagree that Mobb Deep blew up off the backs of Nas and Biggie. Nas put the spotlight on QB, and Biggie put the spotlight on NY generally, but so did Wu, Black Moon and Jeru.

Shook Ones, more than anything, sold The Infamous and catapulted the Mobb to legend status. Remember that the Infamous went gold before Illmatic.

Biggest misconception I see some of the younger users have is they look at the 90's as one long era.

as far as rap and fashion etc you have early nineties, mid 90's.. and then up to like 97 was cool and then it slowly went to trash the last few years which turned into the early 2000's. They were all pretty different.

DEFINITELY

THE 90S SEEMS LIKE IT HAD WAYYYY MORE ERAS THAN THE 10S, ITS WEIRD

AND IN 2000 WE WERE LOOKIN AT SHIIT FROM 1989 LIKE IT WAS ANCIENT

NOWADAYS, SHIIT FROM 2009 DOESNT SEEM THAT FAR IN THE PAST TBH

Yo did Jay Z literally pioneer speed Rapping?
People were doing it before but Jay was speed rapping since High School. Even Busta said when they battled in HS, which had to be like 83-84 he said Jay was rapping ridiculously fast. Busta said he couldn't even keep up with Jay at that time.

1980s – Origins of fast rappingEdit
Although the subgenre of chopper-style hip hop did not achieve broad mainstream appeal until the early–mid 1990s through artists such as Bone Thugs-n-Harmony and Twista, the style has been around for decades. The first group to rap at high speeds on record were the Treacherous Three with the release of "New Rap Language" in 1980.[10][14] Throughout the lyrics of the song, member Kool Moe Dee is continually referred to as the originator of the fast style:

Yeah a lot of people were doing it for that short time period. A lot of rappers called others out for it from The Beatnuts to KRS to Casual.

"Enough with this wackness, enough is my check
Enough of these motherfukkers bititn' Das Efx" - Casual "That's How It Is"

Who remember this?

Yep. Like I said Nas put the spotlight on QB and that helped them. I think the more interesting question is what happens to Mobb Deep if Wu Tang had flopped? Do they still get a deal with Loud? Do they have to get a deal somewhere else where they have to water their sound down and we don’t get the Infamous as we know it?

Snoop was not a star on no limit

everyone thought he was washed when he signed there

Master P was the biggest independent star in rap history
