Bout to listen.. I always thought Bob James really hated rap and sampling although he has let people sample Nautilus.
I always heard he didn’t like when people fukked with the tempo too much. I guess it sounds like he also didn’t like the idea of it happening without him getting some creative say.

Interesting conversation.

... very low key . :mjpls:

How? He explained exactly why.

The quality of vinyl meant that sound was captured better on the outer edges (which would be the first songs), so you put what you thought were your best songs first so listeners got the best sounding music earlier, and you had songs you felt were weaker last so that if they were in fact bad songs, it wouldn't matter that the audio quality was decreased.

What's :mjpls: about that?

This is why I say the best music ever made was in the 70’s and before. There was great music from the 80’s on up, but man just look at how 9th was gushing over Bob James and others from that era while Bob James was like eh, we were just trying shyt :yeshrug::russ: One song provided so many moments to make hundreds of other songs. We will never see that happen again. This interview was great!
That's what happens when you have real musicians with actual instrumentation and skills. These new nikkas don't have jam sessions anymore. Just someone going through a sound pack pressing keys.

The part about the inside of the vinyl being higher quality than the outside, so making sure your favorite songs are earlier so they have better sound quality? Because the needle starts at the outside and moves in?

I didn’t think that seemed bad at all. :picard: He was just talking about the manufacturing process of wax, right?

I’m all for burning him if he said something fukked up, but I don’t think we should jump on Bob of it doesn’t fit. Nautilus being a throw away isn’t totally new news. He famously told RZA that hearing Daytona 500 made him wish that he had played that groove in the song for longer, and RZA made him appreciate the song more.
