why would I have to be high/fukked up to understand someone's music? What am I missing? genuine question. You seem like you experiment or partake in some drugs. What's the difference?
In most cases, the brain works way faster when it's sober. When you're fukked up, you understand less and react less.
Theres actually some psychology behind this, your brain is more likely to form new synapse connections while you're in an altered mental state. This is how ADHD medicines are supposed to work. The new synapse connections are basically new thought processes or habits forming. When you're on something like lean or weed, yes your brain would work slower but it also works differently. Conversely, if you're on molly, x, coke, etc., your brain is actually working much faster and much more freely.
The way this affects how you listen to music is that when you're listening to music sober, once you hear a song a few times your brain naturally fills in some of the background music by itself, because you know whats there. Your synapses are trained as to what comes next and a sober mind will instinctively resort to whats familiar: this is a coping mechanism in all human brains.
When you listen to music on drugs, your brain does not think ahead as to what is coming next. Your left to hear many things in the song that you would've otherwise missed; even in songs you've heard 1000 times.
For me personally, when I listen to music when I'm rolling it just hits you harder. I usually describe it this way: Imagine the happiest you've felt in recent memory, now imagine that feeling lasting for 4 hours(or more if you got it like that). If you were listening to music in that condition its going to sound considerably different than if you're just sitting at the house. Combine that feeling with being at a club or at an arena with big speakers and you can almost absorb the power coming out of the speakers when the sound waves hit you.
For example in Pretty Flacko, every time that "whaowhaowhao" sound hits, you feel like Super Mario catching a mushroom.
In Upper Echelon, every time those horns go "wah wah wah wah wah" shyt is just

menacing af, and the song feels cinematic.
A lot of shyt that sounds "weird" when you're sober somehow makes sense when you're high. You are concerned less with interpreting the music and more with feeling it. This is why Young Thug is successful. He uses his voice like an instrument. This is no amateur technique, Frank Sinatra came up with the idea trying to sound like a trombone/trumpet. But to keep it 100, sober a lot of Young Thug stuff has me
