Coli posters are also music industry experts that know the in and outs of 360 deals, Joe Buddens ass nikkas

Nah, some of us have actually spent time in the business long enough to know how it works. You can either speak facts about things you've seen, or you can be online telling everyone they're too old because they don't share your opinion on certain rappers.

Yeah but YT doesn't count views like that if you watch a video 100 times it's not 100 views if not people would fabricate their numbers...

Basically once a YouTube video has over 300 views, somebody can sit down all day and watch the same video and at most they'll be adding 3-5 views.

Interesting

Not fair to the artist imo

Do they do the same with music streaming services?

And what made them say it will only count as 3-5 views...that seems random as fukk

And I'd imagine you could still fabricate your numbers using vpn no?

I know if the comment/view ratio is off people gonna know you cheating anyway but I'm just wondering if vpn would do the trick

Have you spent time in the business? I see both sides of a 360 deal a lot of these rappers would have nowhere near the money making avenues, fanfare, or connections without their deals. A lot of you like preaching independence but being independent is hard work and may not net you as much success or as long a career. Troy Ave and Young Dolph are two indy artists and I see the grind they put forth. Dudes selling merchandise out their own crib and what not.

I don't care if you think A-Boogie is getting raped as far as I know he's signed to himself High Bridge The Label with a partnership/distribution deal from Atlantic Records. Kevin Liles wanted to see him and the dudes running the label are recent college graduates with degrees in business who want to follow the Roc-A-Fella and Cash Money blueprint. If you think he's getting raped whatever, I don't like how y'all act like these are fake Gold plaques and son is some local NY rapper who is unknown that's BS. I also don't agree with the hate for streaming as a determiner of sales, there's not a record out here getting Gold and Platinum plaques that's not getting the spins the records of old were getting. It's nothing fake about these streaming plaques. Artists getting paid from streaming is a whole different conversation.

A lot of you like preaching independence when even successful independent rappers like Young Dolph and Troy Ave listen to label offers. Fam, when you're in a 360, the label gets money from everything you pull revenue from. Not just music. That's how it works. So when you're saying "money making avenues", you do realize that they're taking bread from that too, right? And not some, most of it. You haven't seen me saying anything about artists being independent. I'm talking about how they're not getting paid. Period. I can't tell anyone what's best for them, but if they're getting jerked, I'm gonna say it's foul.

I'm sorry you don't like other people's opinions on the plaque situation. I can't do anything about how you feel about the posts on here. What I can do, is spit a few facts. And here's another one, Lyor and Liles are Hip Hop's biggest proponents for the 360. Liles has said it himself, that they basically invented it, to make sure labels bring in money when artists have trouble doing so. It's a fact, again, that Atlantic only signs artists to 360's now. They've been operating this way since 2006. It's what Lupe was speaking about back then, and what tons of other artists have come out against since. I didn't say anything about A-Boogie being unknown. I think somebody else did in here. What I'm saying is, giving somebody a plaque for streams isn't the same as seeing a million people go out there and buy your album. It's not the same fundamentally, nor is it the same financially for these artists.

Yes I know what a 360 deal is. But a lot of these rappers wouldn't have that opportunity if it weren't for the labels and their deals...that's the point. Lil Yachty would not have endorsements from all these big companies if it weren't for his situation. You are not getting all of the revenue but at the end of the day you're still in a position to make bread. A-Boogie does not have a 360 deal he is signed to himself and is partnered with Atlantic.
We could officially confirm that A Boogie is signed to Atlantic Records. The deal was inked within the last month. Jason Davis and Ariana White from Atlantic Records are handling press for the rising New York rapper.

Exact terms of A Boogie‘s deal hasn’t been revealed, but I heard that he did not sign a 360 deal. Highbridge The Label have partnered up with Atlantic Records.

Last week, during his set at NYC‘s Madison Square Garden, Drake allowed A Boogie to open up his Summer Sixteen tour and he also shared the stage with Lil Uzi Vert during a recent show.

Financially there may be a difference for the artists, but fundamentally a Gold or Platinum record in the streaming era would be a Gold or Platinum record in the 00's, the songs that are receiving these plaques genuinely have that fanfare and are getting that play in the streets.

Royalties generated period aren't royalties generated for the artist.

The labels are getting paid. The point being made is that the artists are not. Technically, these artists are making what Little Richard made per song sold in 1949, at about
$0.005 or so per stream. That's not what an artist makes if they're selling by the unit, even in the worst of 360's.

Lol you say this like this wasn't the case pre streaming... Artists wee and are still getting paid literally cents for every album sold...They LITERALLY have taken the same model for money generated per physical unit sold and calculated how many streams are needed to equal it... The revenue split between artist/label

A) hasn't changed
B) was never what gold/platinum measured in the first place

The crying about streaming being used to measure certifications is stupid

The opportunity to do what though? Go millions in debt to a record company? What's the point of signing into a 360, if you'll spend the rest of your career paying these people back because you couldn't move any units? I don't know. Maybe it's just to be known, but it makes no sense to do all of that work, just to end up with nothing while busting your ass to break even with a label. BTW, Kevin Liles spoke about A-Boogie's 360 and others on podcasts. That's why I mentioned that before. Go check that out.

You said it puts them in a position to make bread. What I'm saying is, they're not making it for themselves because every cent that comes in has to be funneled through the label first. And if they still have a balance with them, artists won't see a dime.

Opportunities to do shows, sell merchandise , and get endorsements on a larger scale than you could do independently numb nuts

This is mad inaccurate, I can see why artists are getting jerked today. LOL!!

No knock on you, but the fact that you typed that shows that a lot of people really don't know how this works. So it's no surprise that a lot of artists find out too late why they aren't getting paid. You're talking about quantification, I'm talking about revenue dispersed. They are two very different things. Read what I posted before. Labels are getting paid from streams. Artists are getting pennies. Literally pennies! $0.004891. That's per stream. As I said before, if you go "gold", that means you've pocketed less than $3,000. Artists splits with the label haven't been this low since 1949. These are facts. So to say nothings's changed is just wrong. The entire format for how artists get paid has changed in the past decade. Which is why they're trying to make longer projects. So they can make as much money as possible, if they can, from streaming, by the song. The entire system has shifted to cater to labels pulling in way more than they did in the past, and artists, a lot less. This is common knowledge.

And all of that money you get from those things. Where do you think that goes if you're in a 360?

In the artists' pockets or to the label?

Both

What ISO is saying is even though the label is taking the majority of the revenue in a 360 the artist can still end up seeing more money than they would have independently

And I agree (for a new artist at least)

No. Not at all.

If a label has spent a couple million, let's say, on promotion, pressing, distribution, recording, advances, touring, staffing, styling, production, etc. Whatever. But the artist doesn't sell a lot of records. The artist pockets nothing, until that entire two mill or whatever is paid back. So even if the artist tries to do some other shyt, like acting, and gets a check for $100,000, that whole check goes to the label. These artists basically live off their advances, which typically run out quick because they're not as big as they used to be. Sometimes they'll resign for another advance, but all that does is put them deeper in debt. I'm not saying anyone should go indie. What I'm saying is, people don't typically know how the business works, and labels know that. That's why they do things the way they do. They know no one is going to take the time to see if these deals are best for them.

Going indie isn't as hard as it was 10 years ago. Yeah, it's mad more work, but at least you're not busting your ass to pay someone else.
