Except it isn't hyperbole. Marketing has turned the tool into a status item in the end though it is still only a tool. I don't buy into that marketing. When I look at a car all I see is something I use to get where I want to go.That is the only fact you presented. They rest was hyperbole.
I'll ride my car until it breaks down on me and the repairs add up to more than the car is worth. I have a 2002 Oldsmobile my parents gave to me for free several years ago. It cost me about $570 to insure annually and that's it. I take no pride in owning a car nor do I feel any desire to go out and finance another tool to replace the one I have as it still serves it's purpose.
When I was younger and much dumber I financed a car. It was a miserable experience overall and when I totaled it and the insurance paid the loan off I decided never again. The freedom of not having those monthly payments and that insurance payment made me feel so much better than that car ever did.

$450 a month, insurance not included.
