Mental stress is real and serious and sitting around doing sedentary work isn't good for the body or mind.

Stil, his amazon work experience doesn't parallel a lot of those workers because he's likely amassed enough money that he doesn't have to take anything dished out from abusive managers and could quit at any time. His sustenance isn't dependent on the job. That freedom to walk out at any time is a lovely thing.

Waking up with your fingers numb from lifting packages all day sounds like indentured servitude. The fact that he was able to take time away and pull this off means he's well off. Some people don't get that choice.

I am glad he was able to find some semblance of peace though. Sometimes a change of scenery is all it takes.

When I worked in the UPS warehouse, i worked with a dude who quit his accounting job to work in the trenches with us. I thought he was crazy at the time. I was a full time temp and working part time at UPS.

6 years later, working in a financal corp office, I get it. 9 to 5s are more like 7 to 6s, they are mentally draining, and sitting down all day will slowly kill you. I had more energy after working 5 hours in then middle of the night, tossing boxes, than sitting 9hrs in an air conditioned office. If it weren't for covid and wfh these past two years, I would've tried to be a cop :francis:
I get it too. When I was working for a bank and had to approve millions of dollars in wire transfers on the daily, I would have sleepless nights wondering if I fukked something up :francis:. There is a level of peace you get from working a job that doesn’t require a lot of brain power.

I did peak season at UPS last year. It wasn’t the worst job... We got paid $20 an hour, and $30 after we worked 5 hours that day. That pay went back down to $15 after January, but by that time they’d let go of everyone they hired for the season. It was hard the first couple of weeks, but after that it was ok. I definitely gained muscle in my arms, but my feet hurt like a mofo. Oh, and my fingerprints wore off. Could barely open my iPhone with my print...

Marie Antoinette shyt right here. Live like the poors for a few weeks and go back to the lavish life.

Dude just decided to flip it up a bit, and instead of going to a beach resort like he usually does for vacation, stack boxes.

That's why I hate that Undercover Boss shyt. It's like yeah, no shyt it's not sweat. You know there's a time limit on the experiment, and even then you can just back out of it anytime you get tired of it. There's no escape for the average Joe stuck in this lane. He's gotta wake up knowing this is his life for the next 40 years. You don't get paid enough to just get up and go somewhere else. That's true hopeless, soul-crushing despair that drives a man to substance abuse and suicide

I fukking despise these poverty vacations. There was video where some millionaire went homeless to show how easy it is to make a million dollars, while conveniently hiding all the barriers you need to simply survive (good credit, support system, health support system). Dude had a phone with service, a camera crew giving him status. Probably didn't even have to figure where his next meal was going to come from.

How?
We making 20+ an hour and 30 to 30+ on overtime with a shift pay. Foh.

Breaking News: Consistency with working out/physical activity cures depression.
More more Areh looked at the scenario of lifting boxes with no breaks, and contemplated that the cushy office job ain't so bad. Probably gave him the bright idea to get a gym membership when he got back Silicon Valley.
