A credit card should not be used for emergencies. It's a trap to stay in debt.

Credit cards and cash over here.

Only use my debit card for pulling cash from an ATM or bank location.

All my bills, groceries, tech, clothes, emergencies, and everything else gets paid on my credit card. After my monthly statement comes in, I only pay off the statement balance and keep my credit utilization under 30%. Rinse and repeat.

I prefer cash and debit. But it’s not the credit card’s fault if people can’t/ won’t use it responsibly. Im one of those people, so I avoid it.

Dont use credit cards anymore. Its a lie.

If I can't buy it I dont need it.

Instead I saved up a few grands for emergencies in another account and that's my new credit card borrowed from the bank of myself.

Gives me a nice little cushion in case I have an emergency or something.

The only decent advice he has given in years. I got a cashback card and I use it with every purchase and payoff the balance before my statement. That way the bank pays me all the interest I paid them over the years. Been credit card free for a while now. I dont use my credit card if I can't pay the balance in whole if I needed to.

True. Most people I know with credit cards are basically just spending money in advance and playing catch-up

I just booked a flight, all of points and have paid 0.00 dollars interest on this card :win:.

and yes, if your game plan is using a credit card for emergencies, you lost. your supposed to have savings for emergencies, credit cards if used propery arent a trap. maybe a trap for the merchants being stuck up to pay for my vactions but not for me

:yeshrug: I don’t handle the finances, so when I need money for an emergency, I’ll just use the credit card and hubby takes care of it after that. He prefers it that way. We aren’t in debt, just house and small bills and we have money saved up. So whatever his thinking is, it’s working.

:patrice: His credit is higher than mine though:leostare:

It’s a trap for people who

a) Live beyond their means
b) don’t understand how credit works.

the goal should always be to pay off your card every month.

you get the right cards, you can do well for yourself.

I rather save an emergency fund

That feeling knowing you have stacks in the bank for anything life throws at u and not having to go into debt is freeing :blessed:

True but banks are on that bs they’ll hold up the funds in the account while they do an investigation. Where as with credit cards it’s almost always instant zero liability.
Yup, learned my lesson back in 2013 when my debit info was compromised due to the Target data hack.
I had about $300 stolen from my account and my bank was giving me the run around to get me my money back.
After that situation I've been strictly credit cards for everyday use and paying them off immediately.
