Nah college is important in this society simply because we live in a democratic Republic that needs its population to be educated.

Without a population that's has some education, you run the risk of having a bunch of zealots falling for wild conspiracy theories and joining cults.
ALSO you would have more crooks and swindlers in positions of power.

(I mean, there's already a lot of crooks in politics but that's another topic)

Not saying everybody who has not gone to college is a naive simpleton, but generally the poor, uneducated and unskilled are the ones that get taken advantage of.

The problem is that these schools jacked their prices up due to availability of federal aid.

Plus, gone are the days where right after you graduate you were garunteed a middle management job paying 45-60k just by having any degree. There's too much competition.

Tuition is way too damn high for real.

All in all, people need to combine education with vocation.

Now this is a reasonable take I can agree with. However, you'd have people claiming that they can't get into college without the loans. So do you let the banks become more restrictive on their lending?

Banks should have more accountability in their lending practices. The fact that they successfully lobbied to have the student culpable no matter what is crazy to me. No other lending vehicle allows a teenager with no assets, no income, and no credit history to borrow tens of thousands of dollars.

There should be a cap on how much schools can charge for tuition which should be tied to inflation. Make nominal adjustments based on locality, etc.

Ideally, costs shouldn’t be so high that a student should need a private loan, but if they want to be in the game there should be some arrangement between the banks and the government where the government would only guarantee a portion related to living expenses. Anything further would be on the banks head.

IN the AMC thread I done told people step by step instructions on how to avoid capital gain taxes, I never learned how to do this in any school, I learned through experience in life by actually being in the world competing and doing business

Same here, I could've defenitely done my job without the sheepskin. Before I joined the Army I had a Sales Office Manager position. Granted I probably wouldn't have been hired without a degree but it had nothing to do with my major.

The Jobs I had after the Army I couldn't have gotten without military service.

This College is way too high. When I graudated I had 12K in student debt. Which was paid off in the military That was more than 20 years ago but that's a laughably small sum owed by today's standards.

I think that degrees should cost what the likelyhood of potential salary Legal and Medical degrees should cost more than Psychology degrees.
