He had a terrible first impression last night shooting 2-13 on a near double-double.

I was never big on the Wemby hype train but from what I saw last night, while talented he's gonna have to put a lot of work in, especially with regards to weight training. Just too thin and frail.

Secondly, the media and hype-crazed fans gassed him up a little too much and you can tell he thought coming into the league that he'd dominate with ease...lol Summer league or not, he's playing against real competition now all that stuff we see in his highlights ain't gonna happen night in and night out and opposing players will send his behind to the ground tryna get cute.

Y'all should've seen the denial from his stans on Facebook last night after NBA on ESPN posted the clip of him getting dunked on 😭 tryna to say that wasn't any dunk but just a tip-in 💀.

Overall I think there was things about the game that were major positives. He has a rim protecting presence and is also a deterrant. Charlotte I don't know if they were terrible offensively but could barely score. Definately DPOY potential, plus they were trying to see if he can guard in space with mixed results.

Offensively he's not the shooter they make him out to be. He's not KP or KD. His handle is good for his size but he's getting stripped. He's not strong yet so he's not able to body people in the post. He's similar to KP in this regard. But he has the tools to be better. Operate the way KP and AD does and he'll be good. I'd have him operate at the elbow. Catch and turn like KP. Study how those guys get shots. Right now I think his major flaw is he's getting bodied by stronger athletes who are lower to the ground. Once he gets to a good place physically is when the league better watch out. Right now every time he falls I think he's about to get injured.

His passing was a nice surprise. I'd probably say he could be the second best passing big in the league at some point behind Jokic.

They won the game. He's not a finished product yet so I'm not gonna over react. I loved how the crowd expected a show but he came in and tried to do the right plays. His shot was off and he didn't seem like it was showing in his body language that he was missing shots. Unteachable feel. His size does also a double edged sword. Helps him but hurts him in shot creation and in strength and balance.

Even if he didn't get called the goat putting up 7 & 4 as the number 1 pick in this era will get you railed on. Fultz was the first time I started seeing that this era hits different. Homie was going through some next shyt and you still saw them clips of him every fukking day shooting like shyt getting clowned on socials. You got to be good from jump these days.
We don’t know what Fultz was going through but the expectations of a top pick is to be an all star and pull your team out of the mud

The issue with Wemby is that he was hyped and built as "the best prospect EVER" in any sport.. or at the very least as good as Lebron (who could have played NBA ball as a JR in high school)

We expected a more refined offensive game, and what we got is a guy who needs to gain strength FAST and weight even tho his team as consistently said they don't wanna do that. We didn't expect him to come out there and have GLARING red flags or weaknesses against arguably the worst Summer league team in the past few years.

He was getting stood up by rookie wing Brandon Miller lol.. what you think is gonna happen in an actual NBA game trying to back down Brook Lopez, or Embiid, or hell ANY big on an NBA roster.

An issue with him is going to be the conditioning.. he's gonna have tired legs, and he's not strong enough to take it to the rack against other bigs so he's gonna have to shoot over them... that's gonna be a problem when defenders basically push him as far away from the basket as possible and he tries to shoot over guys on tired legs. His % is already bad but it's not gonna look pretty

His rim protection is gonna be good right off the bat, but he's gonna have some real big problems when out on the perimeter against smaller guys/wings cause at the moment he's a deer on ice with his lower body. He's gonna be great as a help defender, but probably not great 1v1

He can't play the 5, so he's like a huge 3/4 out there I guess? You can't have him go 1v1 vs AD/Bam/Jokic/Embiid etc but you also don't want him out there trying to guard PG/Kawhi/Bron/Tatum.. He's in an incredibly weird spot out there. I think it'll work out, but people didn't expect "2-3 year project" when it came to Wemby

Tim Duncan was hyped huge, had four years of college under his belt, and still got outplayed by Greg Ostertag in summer league. Then turned around and had one of the greatest first two seasons in NBA history and continued to one of the GOAT careers.

This game is meaningless. That's not to say that Wemby doesn't have problems, and that there aren't clear red flags. But only the red flags that were already apparent, nothing whatsoever should be taken from a single game in isolation.
with tim duncan it was clear it was just nerves...there was nothing physic ally or fundamentally wrong

is VW gonna become stronger and faster in a couple of months?

He blocked five shots despite his weak frame and "slowness" and had plays like this:

If he had hit 7-13 shooting and scored 21 points instead of 9, the takes here would be completely different.

And he doesn't need to be stronger and faster in a couple of months, he's just 19. Tim Duncan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar started their GOAT careers at 21/22. He has at least 3-4 years to continue building muscle on that frame before you can even begin to suggest that he's never gonna have it.

look at how nba ready bron was in 2003

LeBron is an unfair comp, John Lucas said that he was NBA-ready in 2001 or 2002. He invited Bron to a private workout, put Cleveland's bench on one team (Bimbo Coles, Bryant Stith, Jumaine Jones, Chris Mihm and DeSagana Diop), and 11th-grade Bron with a bunch of random college players on the other team. Apparently LeBron just dominated the entire game. Like no one else there was even in his league, he just took over the moment they told him to take over and everyone else on the squad watched in awe. That's when he was a damn 11th-grader.

No one else was like that except for maybe Wilt and Kareem. Pretend Wemby is a college sophomore and give him some time.

And this is coming from someone who doesn't even think Wemby is going to be a great.

The issue is that his team has repeatedly said they don't want him gaining weight tho.

I think his shot is the least of his issues. His rebounding seemed weirdly not great, his height was a hindrance to his handles, and his motor was off, along with conditioning.

Now these can all be fixed eventually, but we say the same chit about all the big men and for a lot of them it never materializes

His shot has always been pretty below average from 3 and the parts of his game that had people drooling was the thinking his shot was KD and he can handle the rock like a wing.

He's going to be the best shot blocker in the league with good playmaking for the position. With those two things alone he's going to be an all star. If his scoring comes along at all he will be an MVP candidate.

But you can tell the offensive repertoire/self creation is bare right now, he was trying things he could get away with in France that will never fly here. The KD comps and highlights of one footed 3s completely ignored how busted his shot looks and his bad %.
