So last night he was at the gym working out, and he had a heart attack and died…same age as me, 35

They called his mom and told her the news, she had a heart attack and died

We weren’t best friends, hell can’t even say friends; but we went to school all of our years together, grew up in the same neighborhood…can’t wrap my mind around this one :mindblown:

Its things like this that humbles people because death is a part of reality. Live and respect life and get your affairs in order. Folks take life for granted and get reminded. RIP to both the son and the mother.

my cousin was in Iraq back in 2011 and collapsed when he went for a run.

we found out he had an undiagnosed heart condition that caused him to have a heart attack.

i think if he was in the states he would've survived...they resuscitated him a couple of times but then third time they were unable to b/c they could nit land the helicopter to shock him.

that said, i have 2 boys and if you guys have kids please ensure that their hearts are checked. ultrasound are suppose to catch those things.

RIP to your friend and his mommy

RIP to ur friend and his mom, what a family tragedy

When I was in the 7th grade, our cool ass school security guard died of a heart attack during lunch break in his car
he wasn't found until the next day
he was also 35

This is why I stress people to start taking their health seriously at 30
blood work once a year
check for high blood pressure (twice a year)
check for high blood sugar (once every 3 months)
start eating healthy, start being active (even if its walking)

you can look perfectly fine on the outside but genetically a mess on the inside

Damn his mom died after hearing that her son died? That's terrible.

Rest in Peace.
It happens. Broken heart syndrome. My MIL’s mom was killed in a car accident close to the crib. The fam tried to keep her away because it was a t-bone by a semi. She unknowingly took the only road they hadn’t tried to block. She had a heart attack shortly after arriving in the scene

We still pour some out for our fallen comrades these days, or had this practice completely passed into obscurity?

Not that I could tell. He gained a few pounds that year, but that’s it. He might have had issues but just didn’t tell anyone

A girl I knew in high school, passed away suddenly from a heart condition a year or two after we had graduated a long time ago. Wasn't fat or nothin either. Left behind a child too :mjcry:

RIP

My father had heart issues that helped do him in. Sometimes when I over-exert myself I often feel pretty bad heart-wise. I often wonder if doctor's just haven't found something that is present that he had.

I had a couple guys from high school die in their 20's due to heart issues. One was kinda over weight, and short. But nothing where you'd think he would suddenly die.

Other dude was relatively fit, just had a congenital heart issue that (as far as I know, or could tell) never showed any outward signs. It just killed him.

Fred.

Yeah, not everybody that has heart problems is fat :francis: don't make the mistake of thinking that

Some people just have unlucky genes. You can have shyt like familial hypocholestemia which just causes you to have super high cholesterol your entire life regardless of what you eat. If you don't take medication then you have super high odds of having a heart attack young.

Drugs are also a huge factor in young people having heart attacks, especially coke.

Now I’m paranoid. Can I get my heart checked at a regular yearly physical?

What should I ask for specifically over the phone when booking the appointment or in the the doctor’s office during the exam?

All they're really going to do at a physical is check your blood pressure, and maybe do bloodwork to check your cholesterol and blood sugar. Unless they find a problem with those (or you have symptoms like chest pain when running) they probably won't do any specific heart test. Especially if you're under 40.

If you're worried about heart disease (especially if it runs in your family) you can ask to be referred to a cardiologist to be screened for heart disease. Cardioloigist would probably have you do a stress test and maybe a CAC scan (which checks for plaque in your arteries). Haven't done those myself but I plan to when I hit 40.
