I'll admit that I do wonder if the "geography" argument holds up as to why there are not more "enlightened", new science producing cultures..
This is honestly an insecurity I've long held within myself. I have always wondered why were my ancestors so easily swept up into white people bullshyt. Is it really due to to weapon superiority? So if thats the case, why do African nations continue to lag behind now? Is it due to continued foreign meddling? Or is tribalism and the environment still to blame..
I will also admit that my ignorance is in part due to my seeming inability to form a counter argument to some of these race science lines of thinking. I'd like to be able to punch these arguments down hard, but I do not think that calling the (obviously racist) person a racist is always the best path to do so..

One thing to note is that winner' will re-write history as they see fit. There are some truths to the advantage of having superior geography in economic and development e.g. the US being bordered by the Atlantic and Pacific making it tougher to invade and giving it bountiful resources. But even then, that argument does not necessarily hold weight in all regards.

One example of this is DR Congo. If you know anything about the DRC is this, it has a large connected network of navigable rivers that empties in the Atlantic Ocean. That was one of the draws to King Leopold and what made the exploitation of DRC much easier. With a steamboat, Belgians could travel inland to DRC, access slave labor to harvest rubber and other minerals and ship back to Brussels.

Initially, yes. Europeans had superior weapons e.g. steel over bronze and guns over spears. Now, however, the lag is two-fold. On one hand the “powers that be” have identified Africa as a continent to extract mineral resources for cheap to sustain their current lifestyle e.g. cobalt, gold, diamonds, uranium, bauxite, coltan, cocoa, rubber etc. On the other hand, African leaders aren’t incentivized to play the long game and develop their nations. They seek short term profits by selling a nations resources at fire sale prices.

The reason they lag behind now is also because power does not just relinquish itself for the sake of it. Power has to be taken, either by force or otherwise. Look at China now. At the last WW, China wasn't even at the table, now they have Global Markets spooked. It used to be if the US economy sneezed, the wold caught a cold. Now, if China sniffles the world gets out their cough drops.

The counter argument to her "geography doesn't matter nonsense" is to see the exact amount of aid and assistance the state of Israel has gotten since it was created...........and from whom........and why. She is well aware of how Israelis would have fared without being propped up and subsidized by the West for decades.

That's what I was thinking. She wants to limit immigration based on "cultural-social distance". Well, her parents were freaking Eastern European Orthodox Jews immigrating in the beginning of the 20th century, their "cultural-social distance" was WAY out of line with a bunch of Anglo-Saxon Protestants. So by her reasoning she shouldn't even be here.

And how do we measure cultural-social distance anyway? What do we consider the standard? Are White people the standard, or Black folk, or Asians, or Latinos? If you're a 2nd-generation American like her does your culture not count, or can you count too so long as you've "acculturated" to 18th-century British values?
