you do realize the ps3 was the better SYSTEM as well right? you do realize you could barely tell on certain games right? so for the most part if you polled 100 people. 80% of them would say they had the identical same experience on the ps3 as they had on the 360 assuming they played the same game on both systems.

but what the xbox1 is doing with their online gaming(300k servers) and the cloud. those two things alone will tremendously help gaming.

let me give u a little geek boy talk.

the ps4 is superior to the xbox 1. that goes without saying and anyone saying otherwise is a liar. now we're talking TECH SPECS only.

but with that said. the ps4 isnt 3 times better then the 360. its not even 2 times better. its percentages better from a bare TECH spec.

but again that wont show up in game or game play or graphics to the point where you will go :whoo:

what the xbox1 has done with the 300k servers and the cloud computing. is they are getting rid of the bottlekneck effect.

be honest do you think PSN is on par with xbox live? NO
do you think the new psn is on par with 300k servers + cloud computing? HELLZ NO.

guess what direction gaming is going in? multiplayer online gaming.

guess what xbox just made a lot better? multiplayer online gaming.

the great graphics that these companies made for the game that gets degraded due to a lack of server strength will not be the problem that it was with the 360. or the problem that it will most likely be with the ps4. because of the 300k servers + cloud computing.

what im telling you is something computer geeks know when building a pc or upgrading a pc. there is a couple of ways to increase performance of your PC.

if you dont like that it takes to long for your website to come up, what do you do?
some people will get an entirely new computer. that will help. More ram, faster harddrive, faster motherboard for the ram and the harddrive. you will see a difference.

but what would significantly increase the speed in which the websites come up? if someone was fixed on the server side and some pressure was taking off of my pc at home. thats exactly what MS is doing.

There's no reason to get a 8 core processor when you ave 512 mb of ram. the ram will be the bottle kneck.

there's no reason to get 8 core processor 8 gigs of ram super fast hard drive, but you dont have the serve capacity to deal with the new LARGER games that you can now develop for the console. the better the console, the larger the games will be from a file prospective, the more computations have to be done. sure the console can do it when you play at home by yourself or with a friend in the same room. but the moment you go online. with your same internet connect you had last year. not bad, but not great. you have more data being transferred thru the same connection. guess whats going to happen? its going to slow down.

its like watching a 1080p movie in 3D stutter the entire time. what difference does it make thats it looks great if it stutters the entire time?

when you could be playing a 720p game in 3D with zero stutter.
dont get caught up in the tech specs until you weight how it will effect YOUR gaming experience in every condition. console only, then online. if you dont play online. GET THAT ps4. but if you play online heavy? GET that box.

Also...let me drop this off for you smart guy...since you think you know how powerful this "cloud computing" is going to be.

"What's obvious at this point is that the concept of cloud computing looks uncertain and unlikely, and Microsoft needs to prove its claims with actual software. Yet based on what we've been told, the firm itself isn't sure of what uses to put it to, while the limitations of latency and bandwidth severely impede the benefits of all that computing power. Frequent references to Live and multiplayer gaming suggest a less exciting, though certainly valuable, use for Microsoft's new servers in providing better, conventional, multiplayer experiences. More players, adaptive achievements and intelligent worlds all sound great in theory, but we're certainly not seeing the notional results of a four-fold increase in Xbox One's processing power."

the market research is on the PC games that have gone DRM, its on digital music thats DRM. i mean i can go on and on. DIGITAL is the wave of the future. sony will bend or break eventually.

sony won a small battle. but unless they revamp their situation they will lose the war.
remember sony was in dire need of winning a battle, any battle. they had to have this. xbox wanted to win the war. they are heading in that direction even with the flack.

What the fukk you talking about? Sony will eventually break? Wtf? Sony is already doing digital distribution. There is nothing to break.

Son...Jesus can come and explain it to them and they won't get it..and these are supposed GAMERS...imagine when the casual market or parents get ahold to this shyt for their kids...there's gonna be an outrage..Lmao...

Lol. These dudes is zombies. They so emotionally invested in MS that they can't even be honest with themselves about this fukkery MS is pulling.

Your post was tolerable til you brought up COD being the same without party chat.

*host party, begins search, can't hear shyt during*

*while match loads up, voices skip in and out*

*host drops, server migrates, can't hear shyt*

*lobby drops, everyone gets scattered but nobody knows since the screen takes >2mins to update*

*sends invite, don't know if group is glitched or player is ignoring *

Party chat is damn near a necessity in COD if you don't want headaches :heh:

When I did play COD it was lone wolf/merc style...no clans so the party chat thing never was groundbreaking for me. I just join whatever game and play. When I had XBL I used to play Halo Reach and Gears wit some "friends". I get why it is a must for lot of gamers though. Its effective and works great.

Here's something I am not sure of though, how come gaming is the only industry I can think of that complains about 2nd hand sales?

-DMP-

Because games are traded in probably more than any other comoodity and developers look at them as a lost sale...

So for example if you buy halo 4, and trade it in, and a guy buys it, and trades it in, and a guy buys it, and trades it in...that is what...microsoft and bungie only made money when you bought it

microsoft and bungie feel like they should have made money 4 times, since the game was bought 4 times...

And they are offering a disc based product that has virtually no added lifetime cost to it...neither mircrosoft nor the developers inherit some cost to a game the longer it is out in the market...

Now of course the main problem with this is...just cause somebody bought a game used doesn't mean they would buy it for retail price ( that is why they are buying it used ) and thus it doesn't really make sense for microsoft to count that as a lost sale anyway...but i digress

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
This is from: microsoft engineer on xb1 - Pastebin.com

" >The thing is we suck at telling the story. The whole point of the DRM switch from disc based to cloud based is to kill disc swapping, scratched discs, bringing discs to friends house, trade-ins for shyt value with nothign going back to developers, and high game costs. If you want games cheaper then 59.99, you have to limit used games somehow. Steam's model requires a limited used game model.

>The thing is, the DRM is really really similar to steam... You can login anywhere and play your games, anyone in your house can play with the family xbox. The only diff is steam you have to sign in before playing, and Xbox does it automatically at night for you (once per 24 hours)

>It's a long tail strategy, just like steam. Steam had it's growing pains at the beginning with all it's drm shyt as well. [...] For digital downloads steam had no real competition at the time, they were competing against boxed sales. At the time people were pretty irate about steam, (on ***** too...) It was only once they had a digital marketplace with DRM that was locked down to prevent sharing that they could do super discounted shyt.

>Think about it, on steam you get a game for the true cost of the game, 5$-30$. On a console you have to pay for that PLUS any additional licenses for when you sell / trade / borrow / etc. If the developer / publisher can't get it on additional licenses (like steam), then they charge the first person more. [...] If we say "Hey publishers, you limit game to 39.99, we ensure every license transfer you get 10$, gamestop gets 20$" that is a decent model... Microsoft gets a license fee on first and subsequent game purchases, compared to just first now? That's a revenue increase.

>Competition is the best man, it helps drive both to new heights. See technology from the Cold War. If we had no USSR, we'd be way worse off today. TLDR: Bring it on Steam

2/4

>Yeah we passed that around the office at Xbox. Most of us were like "Well played Sony, Well played". That being said they are just riding the hype train of ZOMG THEY ARE TRYING TO fukk US FOR NO REASON. Without actually thinking about how convienent it would be for the majority of the time to not find that disc your brother didn't put back... [...] just simpleminded people not seeing the bigger picture. Some PS4 viral team made them all "U TOOK R DISCS" and they hiveminded.

>Everyone and their mother complains about how gamestop fukks them on their trade ins, getting 5$ for their used games. We come in trying to find a way to take money out of gamestop, and put some in developers and get you possibly cheaper games and everyone bytches at MS. Well, if you want the @#$@ing from Gamestop, go play PS4.

>The goal is to move to digital downloads, but Gamestop, Walmart, Target, Amazon are KIND OF fukkING ENTRENCHED in the industry. They have a lot of power, and the shift has to be gradual. Long term goal is steam for consoles. [...] If you always want to stay with what you have, then keep current consoles, or a PS4. We're TRYING to move the industry forwards towards digital distribution... it'sa bumpy road

>Publishers have enourmous power. Microsoft is trying to balance between consumer delight, and publisher wishes. If we cave to far in either direction you have a non-starting product. WiiU goes too far to consumer, you have no 3rd party support to shake a stick at. PS4 is status-quo. XB1 is trying to push some things, at the expense of others. We have a vision, we'll see if it works in the coming years

>Living room transformation. We want to own the living room. Every living room TV with an XBox on input one. It's the thing that gives the signal to your TV, everything is secondary. The future, where games, TV, internet telephony, all that shyt happens magically on some huge ass screen with hand / voice gestures... That's our goal.

3/4

>Google TV + PS4 + Minority report level gestures, that combined with a sick second screen experience (which is really hot for TV, I know I know.. tv tv tv tv tv... but it's fukking sick when you have it). Games will be the same, there are more exclusives to MS then PS atm, and Kinect 2 makes Kinect 1 look like a childs toy.

>By default it's on, listening for "Xbox On". You can turn it off tho, and turn the console like OFF off. OFF off is required for Germany / other countries that require it (no vampire appliances) [...] It has to be plugged in for the console to post. You can turn off everything it does from the settings. Think of it like airplane mode for the iPhone. You can't just unplug the cellular radio, but you can turn it off.

>Instead of 10mins, is 24hrs for your console, and 1 or 2 at a friends house. Really the majority of people have a speck of internet at least once a day. And if you don't. Don't buy an Xbox 1. Just like if you didn't have a broadband connection don't get Live, and if you don't have an HDTV the 360 isn't that great for you either. New tech, new req. This allows us to do cool shyt when we can assume things like you have a kinect, you have internet, etc.

>Current plan is basically you're fukked after 24 hours. Yeah... I know. Kind of sucks. I believe they will probably revist the time period and / or find a diff way to "call in" to ensure you haven't sold your license to gamestop or something... but there is no plan YET. I'm hoping the change it, but I don't work on that so I don't have much influence there /sigh

>If the power goes out you ain't playing shyt. I'm assuming you mean the internet goes out but you have power for TV and Xbox. Yes, You're fukked for single player games. Again, that's the PoR (Plan of record), but I expect it to change after the e3 clusterfukk

>What fee? There is no fee to play your games at your friends house. Never has, never will. Even x360 digital downloads could do that.

4/4

>The cloud capabilities is the shyt they like the most. We basically made a huge cloud compute shyt and made it free. What people are doing with it is kind of cool. THe original intention was to get all the Multiplayer servers not requiring 3rd party costs (Like EA shutting down game servers to cut costs), as well as taking all the games that servers hosted by the clients (Halo, etc), and have all that compute done in the cloud allowing more CPU cycles for gameplay. That will really expand what developers can do. Anything that doesn't need per frame calculation and can handle 100ms delays can be shifted to the cloud. That's huge.

>SmartGlass + IE is going to be pretty freaking sweet. 1 finger cursor, 2 finger direct manip. Basically if you think of a laptop trackpad where your phone/ slate is the trackpad and the monitor is your TV... it's that. The tech is there, just needs to be applied. There is some really cool shyt going on with Petra + controllers that pairs people with controllers. So if person with controller two trades controlers with controller 1, their profiles magically switch. It's sick. What does this matter? Now if you lean left/right it knows which person is leaning, even if 4 people are all int he same room. It's awesome.

>New service using Azure for cloud compute. Allows developers to not use clients for hosting multiplayer servers, or other tasks that do not require per frame calcuations. It's pretty sweet.

>Honestly, if you care about anything other then pure games AT ALL. Xbox 1 > PS4. If all you do is play games, and nothing else, PS4.

This was all from the Microsoft engineer that was on /b/ last night.

>It's not worth my time to prove it, or risk my Job. I work in Studio A, 40th ave in Redmond, Wa. The thai place in the studio cafeteria has double punch wednesdays. Go ahead and call them and verify if you want."

Of course take this with grain salt but it actually puts it into perspective. It doesn't mean you have to agree. As I said before change the check in to a weekly check in, and find a easier way to sell used games.

P.S. If you can't discuss this with being a fanboy please don't post. Leave the talking to man. :win:

i actually did read this... this microsoft plan is making some sense. the problem is, THEY are the ones actually being small minded

he keeps saying gamestop.. does he know people sell shyt in other locations?? ebay, real people, craigslist, other game stores, etc. so all that trade for $5 shyt is irrelevant. i can sell brand new games for $10 less then retail if i don't want the shyt no more. check ebay.. happens everyday

then he fails to mention buying used games.. gamestop will charge you 55.99 instead of 59.99 ... again, go to ebay.. but then he says "Hey publishers, you limit game to 39.99, we ensure every license transfer you get 10$, gamestop gets 20$" that is a decent model... Microsoft gets a license fee on first and subsequent game purchases, compared to just first now? That's a revenue increase."

ummmmm who's selling any new game for 39.99 i don't care if disks burn up tomorrow, devs ain't dropping $30 off the price of games when they know for a fact they can sell millions at 59.99

still just ignores rentals. people do actually like to try shyt out, before we spend $60 on some shyt we can't return because you won't allow us to

but that sharing shyt is cool. i can't even argue that point at all. i know ps3 does it now, so will ps4... cause that would be a nail... to still include the exact same sharing plan (with only 2 people) but also have everything the same as well for the discs.. who knows... to be continued

Nikkas so focused on gamestop and they forget other means of selling/trading games. I NEVER used gamestop to trade-in. Whatever fits their broken argument :yeshrug:

Your link is no better than the original source. Nothing was proven, all it says is he didn't believe it was real because of grammer :usure: Then it goes into why the person should of went to a reporter. Yeah, I'm sure anybody would put there career in jeopardy so a more credible source can get the story. I can't prove that its real, but your link didn't prove that it wasn't either

What he says makes sense, to be honest, but at the same time, not everyone is ready to put up with this and it's not like we've been shown any games that REALLY push the boundaries, yet at least. I think people would've been way less forgiving towards Microsoft if they actually showed a super exclusive game that will change gaming forever (think of an equivalent of the revolution that was Super Mario 64 or LoZ: Ocarina of Time), but they haven't really done that. Becaue most people won't suffer from the limitations Microsoft are putting on the Xbox One. Most gamers sell their used games at Gamestop. Most gamers have an online connection. A lot of gamers have webcams. Etc. So in the end it's about if the console's other capabilities and games outweigh those limitations. Microsoft haven't REALLY been clear on that.

This is all I wanna know. The movie industry doesn't trip about dvd sales. The auto industry, etc.

I'm sure there are reasons... I just wanna know why.
