This is true. Injuries as well to some stars. I believe simmons called it the "too much too soon" era.
Lots of players that were good but should have been great.
Prolly why we don't have 7 year deals any more

Yeah good thing Anthony Bennett, Evan Turner and Dion Waiters didn't get that Shaq, Zo, L.J., Penny Hardway money... It might have went to their heads and prevented their greatness

I also hate hipster analytical geeks and bitter lying old heads equally... The real truth is most likely in the middle of Charles "Dey Shoot Too Many Jumpuuurs" Barkely and the Seth Partnow's of the world...

The biggest problem with dudes that turn their noses up at "analytics", simply don't understand how they're used - the fact that it's all about percentages/probabilities - doesn't mean that that they're absolute (which I've seen MANY posters on here mistake them for). Not to mention just because someone maybe a "hipster analytical geek" doesn't mean they don't understand the value of luck, matchups, execution, experience, effort and all other intangibles that the other side is preaching.
The fact that most think that analytics is all about shooting 3-pointers shows their inability to take their fingers outta their ears.

It's all based on what the referees will allow you to get away with. It's clearly working for the Cavs in this series.

From 94-04 NBA had it's slowest paced years ever... anyone who says other ways is a retard...
The main reason it was slower pace is because teams posted up a lot. Also in the early 90s, it was more fast paced but many defenses really funneled guys to shot blockers... Also teams tried to score inside the paint more and around the basket.. So hence more blocks...
Lower FG%... same thing ,more half court play, less transition opportunities...
Steals is a bit more tricky to pin point but I found that in the late 80s/90s they ran a lot of screens with cuts to the hoop where defensive players were stationed, so more likely to create a steal. I forget the name of the play, its similar to what is called a "uCLa cut"
Also since 3pt shooting wasn't such a huge weapon guys were more likely to shoot the gap and of course the infamous hand checking lead to some extra steals as well.

I didn't mean to place Seth in that hipster geek category...I've played games with him and trained with him before, he's a real hooper..He just happens to have always been a math wiz...I just mentioned him because he's one of the few I know by name..
I respect his opinion even though we disagree sometimes...

Physicality, which was supported by the referee's. This is HUGE.
No zone defense, so on the ball defense was a must for you to win in the league. You had to know how to play defense.
I think players on average were less athletic, so they couldn't take advantage.
More big men, that played big.
It's really a culture and a mind-set that only the dogs have. Like Patrick Beverly is a dog, It's not too many dogs today.
