My 3 year old is a very stubborn eater. Probably the most stubborn eater I've ever seen in a child. If he doesn't like the way it looks, he won't even touch it. He's a visual eater. It's amazing because as a young baby, 1 and 2 year old, he was the child that would experiment and eat anything. But now he just cries when we try to get him to eat. When I would force it into his mouth, he'll literally just hold it in his mouth. Like for hours. He will not swallow it.

Now I went thru this with my eldest son when he was that age as well but I could just threaten him enough and he'd relent and eat. He grew out of it fairly quickly. By the time he was 3, he was straight.

But boy this youngest son of mine is so frustrating. And you would think I'm talking about veggies and shyt huh? Nah. I bought some McDonald's today because we hadn't had any in like 2 months. Chicken Mcnuggets and fries. Every kid loves that right? Nope.

He would eat the fries and Ketchup of course but wouldnt touch the chicken. The only thing he'll eat is PB&J, pizza, maybe some chick fil a strips and spaghetti. That's all. That's his list of foods.

We've tried everything. We've tried making dinner time more fun, we've tried manipulation. He doesnt have any medical dietary issues. He's just stubborn.

When I was a kid and mom's/grandma made us food that we didn't wanna eat, then we just wouldnt eat. We'd either sit at the table all night or just go to bed hungry with nothing but water. Old school. Tough, but it worked. Grandma wasn't with that bullshyt.

Thats what I've been doing. Tough love. My wife would end up making him something he likes after he wouldn't eat what we previously made. But I told her to stop doing that because it conditions him to hold out and be defiant until he's rewarded with what he wants. I'm not doing that shyt. He's gotta learn to eat what we make or not eat at all. He'll be 4 this year and I'm tired of this shyt. I'm tired of us cooking home prepared meals and him not eating. He won't even taste it. I remember one time my wife made some honey glazed salmon, rice and green beans. He wouldnt even attempt to try it. My wife was heartbroken. :mjcry:

Any parents dealt with this? Any advice? I hate sending my boy to bed hungry but idk what else to do. :francis:

Never went through it. I'd take him to a professional. Proper diet is really important for development. Might be something going on. I'd try a pediatrician and if they can't crack it go to some specialist or naturopath type deal.

3 is way 2 young for the "old school" treatment.

Send that boy to bed Hangry

:mjcry:

Well at least a few times.
There was one time where he went 2 days without eating dinner. Don't get it twisted though, he'll eat his breakfast and lunch sometimes. So it's not like he's not eating at all during day. But them 2 days was stressful as hell. That 3rd day he went on and ate.

Can't even be tough with the kids these days. Parents breakind down and doing whatever the kid tells them to do. Then wonder why when they become young adults, and tossed out into the real world, they short circuit.

Pediatrician told us is completely normal and some kids are just more stubborn then others. They looked at his mouth and throat to make sure nothing was going on and everything checked out. It's funny because he won't eat his dinner but if you throw some juice or sweets in front of him, it's over.

Use more manipulation. Does he eat with a favorite toy. Take it. He doesn't get it back until he eats and swallows.

Alternatively just buy and feed him bad versions of his favorite foods (more manipulation). Hopefully it's so bad he will just get put off and you can incorporate your meals again.

Teach him how to cook what he likes and break down why it’s important he eats his food. I know you a good father so just keep on being patient. Let him know that if he doesn’t eat mama food it will make her sad lmao. But teaching him how to cook is the move

My bro is going through this with his family. 1st kid is 4 and a super picky eater, they'll be up late trying to get him to eat something.
Basically after few months they decided they he gonna have to eat what they fix or get nothing lol. It just sucks for them because usually that puts the kid in a bad mood and ruins their day also lol.
