A rapper's voice, delivery and confidence on the mic is more important than lyrics

Not matter how ill your lyrics are, if you have an annoying voice and lack confidence on the mic, the brilliance of your writing ability will be lost on your audience. Most niccas ain't patient enough or interested in hearing your rhyming intelligence if you annoying them in the process.

On other hand, mediocre lyricists can get away with being listenable as the listener appreciates their flow and confidence on the mic, there's more people listening to music for listening pleasure as opposed to appreciating your lyrical abilities.
That is why you find lots of cats naming artists most people never heard of as being capable of producing "better rhyme schemes" than x y and z, but most niccas won't give those cats a chance or hear them out merely based on fact that they come up weak when they try to ride a beat.

Those who ensure they cover all bases are the ones who end up as hip hop icons.

I agree.

Which is why I got Mac Dre permanently in my Top 5 DOA even though his subject matter is limited and his lyrics are funny, yet pretty straight forward.

"Give a bytch a break!? Nope! For What?
She'll be on the track... Pos-ted up!"

Edit: I agree with THREADSTARTER.

I got Rhyme King on ignore. I have no idea what the fukk he said.

well it is a combanation of things but the first thing it start with is rhyming

if he can't rhyme then he can't rap to me imo.

Agreed it is a combination, but I think first and foremost conquering the flow/delivery is more important just because you will automatically force cats to hear your message when they like hearing you on the mic, and when they are prepared to hear you after you've grabbed their attention, that is when you can next display your rhyming capabilities.

However a lot of cats are just like yourself, and will turn off if the nicca's lyrics are too typical and simple, yet this nicca will still garner a huge fan base off the merit of his vocals and flow etc from the majority of the rap listening population, who aren't as concerned with rhyming abilities.

On the other hand talented writers will only end up as great ghostwriters if most cats can't stand them on the mic. That is why I say it is the most important, because it is the first thing you are usually judged by, and it is your only chance not to fucc up the first impression you set for your listeners.

well it depends on what u define as simple or complex because for me if u can rhyme decently then u got your respect from me but if u can't rhyme for shyt like say a rapper named gucci mane future etc.
then u wack to me i don't care personally if u got a dope flow when u can't but words together that actually rhyme and shyt.

Breh the Booth ain't the spot to be at if you looking for groundbreaking observations, threads always fall into these categories around here:

1. "Can't believe (insert name of latest Trap artist) is getting this much attention! Hip hop is officially dead"

2. "Remember when Nas ethered Camel..."

3."Is it safe to say 50 is no longer relevant after (insert latest 50 release) flopped?"

4. "Which rapper deserves to be ran over for ruining (insert classic single)?"

lack of lyrical content will catch up with you eventually. It will also ensure a lack of longevity. Voice, flow, delivery is basic skills of an MC.

Yep. Flow and delivery without substance is only good for the temporary success, however you will need substance to last in the game. However these "basic skills" form over 50% of the total package in my opinion.
