“And here’s what I love fellas,” he continued, turning to David Ortiz. “Four home runs by African Americans. This is a big night for baseball, it’s a historic night. We need more African Americans coming back like when we broke in.”

What is this WE shyt? Arod identifies as african American now?

None of this exists in baseball. Flip your bat a little too high and you're getting a fastball to the head. Too much whining in baseball which is unappealing to the hyper masculinity portrayed on black men. All flash is demonized.
This immediately made me think of all the behind-the-scenes bytching during Tatis Jr’s grand slam. Sensitive ass nikkas with them unwritten rules.

just taking a guess, i think he's saying African Americans can break into league in numbers again like he & Ortiz (Dominicans) did.

MLB has been trying to attract and groom AA talent for decades.

Article is trying to simplify it as if Black ball players are all naturally flamboyant, and were run out of/discouraged from the game because of old school mentalities.

Baseball is ingrained in the cultures of the international Black players who make it to MLB level. Everybody plays, including the best athletes. PR, DR, Cuba, Panama, etc.

Not like that here, and the best athletes play football and basketball.

nah bullshyt. MLBs have been purposely avoiding signing black americans for black latin foreignors. They are cheaper, fill the same roles, and more importantly, wasnt your property at one point in time.

That's your opinion, but the facts support what I posted.

Reviving_Baseball_in_Inner_Cities.gif

Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) will be entering its 31st year of play in 2019. From its inception in 1989 through the 2018 season, RBI has grown from a local program for boys in South Central Los Angeles to an international campaign encompassing more than 200 cities and as many as 150,000 male and female participants per year. In 2010, Jr. RBI was launched, designed to create new playing divisions that provide baseball and softball opportunities for children ages 5-12 that also serve as a feeder to the age 13-18 baseball and softball divisions.

clip from 2011 about the Norfolk area teams

*I'd guess that they have teams in your state currently.
=========================
That's just one of the initiatives from the league. Hall of Fame and legendary AA ball players have done similar things in their hometowns and in the cities they played in to continue the legacy of African Americans in the MLB.
Teams in warm weather regions probably do everything to identify and groom talented young local players, to keep the competitive advantage over other franchises

There were a ton of stars while I was growing up, word to Eddie Murray, ken Griffey Jr, and Barry bonds. We were breaking records left and right with Hank Aaron, Lee Murray, and Ricky Henderson.

Brehs from the 80s onward just became less interested. I also think kids just became more specialized in one sport since the 90s.

High school Basketball kids got the winter season and summer AAU, football brehs play in the fall and just run track to get faster on the field, etc ...

This 100%.

A lot of brehs play football in the fall, do off-season in winter and then run track in summer.

Some football players will also do wrestling or soccer.

The guys that loved basketball as their #1 sport, usually didn't play multiple sports for varsity in high school. Might get some football brehs playing hoops but you'd never see a basketball breh playing baseball or running in the 4 x 100 during spring.

Facts. It’s almost crazy how the onus will almost always be on personal responsibility and black fathers as to why we somehow went from dominating the league to damn near non existent

I don’t know how racism isn’t automatically the first thought that pops into these brehs heads

Systemic racism is the real culprit.

Program Brings Baseball Back to Inner City

This damn article was written in the 1990s and explains how baseball programs got cut in black communities

When gentrification and zoning laws came, it suddenly became a lot harder to actually get enough easily accessible land to play on. And when that school to prison pipeline was in effect things like baseball teams were the first to go.

i'm pretty sure alex was talking about "we" as in the baseball community....given that he immediately prior said "a big night for baseball".

and then the second time he says "when we broke in", probably talking about when him and ortiz first came in the league.... since he was talking directly to ortiz.

context brehs, use it!

but either way, i think he's dominican or puerto rican or something so he probably got some african in him. :manny:

Black baseball died when Black fatherlessness escalated in the 80s.

Fathers teach baseball. Catch between dad and son is a ritual.

Those suburban Little League programs featured this week on ESPN are run by dads.

This post Ladies and Gentlemens is a perfect example of a smart dumb nikka.
