Yet, why do you think usaid is still funding this program? In developing countries, the govt. might as well not exist, for all the impact it has on the day to day lives of people. Triple that for people in remote or rural sections of their countries.
Infrastructure maintenance, social services, etc are more common in Western countries. In the developing world, if those things occur and exist, they are funded by local educated & striver class, diasporans sending resources back, or by outsiders.
They wouldnt happen otherwise.
In this news segment, this program seems to be providing therapy, mental health support to the ex-soldier primarily. They glossed over that part.
The world is changing, and this program seems to help the Fathers in the community adapt to those changes. If the infant mortality and domestic violence numbers decrease in the areas served by the program, Im all for it.
Culture is a beautiful thing, a beautiful evolving thing. And some things that are (implicitly) tolerated with a culture have to be examined, challenged, and discarded.
