i live in tempe, so i see these vehicles every single day. no matter what people tell you about the low odds of an accident, it is still scary. i saw a close call with one of them swerving for no reason; dont know if it was the human or the car that hit the brakes but it stopped just in time to avoid hitting another car. anyway, arizona is probably the most dangerous state for pedestrians and that is due to humans, so i guess the robo-cars are probably still doing better than the people cars.
Difficult to compare until there's the same amount of both on the road.

Seems unavoidable, though. One thing capitalism doesn't do is pump the breaks.

distracted or not, i couldnt see that woman until she was too close to stop. she took a gamble and lost. these roads do need more lighting. tempe has a serious jaywalking problem, especially around the poor sections near broadway. brehs just acting like their asses have bumpers on them

the robot is about as bad as a human at driving, at least in this scenario...

☑ Middle of the night

☑ Basically unlit road

☑ Pedestrian wearing a black jacket and dark blue jeans walking in the middle of the street like she's superman.

I think of myself as an above average driver when it comes to not hitting shyt, but I don't think I could guarantee not hitting her. But at least I would've hit the brakes when I saw her.

One of the biggest selling points of autonomous vehicles is supposed to be safety, but they're not selling me on it. Either the car didn't see the pedestrian, or it did and decided to keep going. Those uber autonomous vehicles have at least 3 types of visual sensors so I have a hard time believing that the software didn't see an obstacle in the road.
