do any of you ever wonder if the rich might actually save money if they just payed their taxes instead of spending so much money on avoiding taxes?

7/35
🇺 parasite137.bsky.social
Forget taxes - why don’t we just cap everything at 1 billion and put all the excess wealth into a sovereign wealth trust for a nation? Taxes would be nominal after that. Problem solved. 🧞‍♂️

I'm not rich, but in absolute dollars, I pay so much more in taxes than average income earners that it's not even funny. And last time I checked, I'm taxed at a higher percentage than those that earn less also.

If people are upset that higher earners learn strategies and loopholes to minimize their tax burden, you're probably better off being upset with yourself for not getting to that point and learning the same strategies...

Now u know u only talk like this around people with money. Prepare to be attacked by lifetime underachievers. With that said the American tax code is antiquated and unbalanced. U have bezos trump musk all paying nearly no taxes while everyday workers pay 20-30%. U can’t blame them personally for utilizing tools aimed for their benefit. Hopefully we get a universal tax code soon. Some of these ninjas would rather pay taxes than allow trump to fix it.
You two can go fucc each other.

The top 10% now hold 67.4% of all the wealth in the US.

The bottom 50% hold 2.5%.

@TedWilcox7
and yet, many in that bottom 50% will vote Republican...the very definition of voting against your self-interest

while the top 10% vote Republican for their own self-interest - tax cuts specifically for them, pro-corporations, anti-regulatory

I wonder how many people the top % employs are on government benefits. How much we pay on that + their government subsidies is probably way more than what poor people cost us in tax dollars. Sick of billionaire welfare.

@Nahanchi7068
And the politicians are all in the top 10%

8/37

when money can be printed out of no where, the closer you are to its creation, the more you benefit from it. Theres a different way to do this

if you add them up it's 69.9%

France has a logical idea to counteract the advantages that billionaires buy themselves:
“with the effective tax rate for … billionaires lower than those for most other taxpayers, action must be taken to ensure the wealthiest are paying their fair share.” New rock-star economist Gabriel Zucman’s wealth tax transfixes France

@wrs_willoughby
The top 10% of Americans by wealth own 87% to 90% of all U.S. stocks, according to recent data from the Federal Reserve.
The wealthiest 1% of households hold around 50% of all stocks.

This is where the policy choices of both political parties, who have no problems coming together to bail out banks, or car companies, or their friends, or their friend’s businesses, or their friend’s countries, or just to blatantly enrich themselves, have brought us.

CEO pay is up 1,094% since 1978, while worker pay is up just 26%.

Why do we always hear "we can't afford to pay our workers more" but never "we can't afford to pay our CEO more"?

@alexandercasillasauthor
During segregation, PUBLIC LIFE in the US was the pride of white people. Public schooling, transportation, pools, community centers, public clubs and groups, libraries, etc.
Replaced after segregation with a push to private schooling, country clubs, public disinvestment, and white flight. Private industry replaced the “centers of community.” Followed by corporate America buying up the main streets that whites didn’t want to share.
We need to restore the quality of public life over profit
