Honestly, I never got this. If anything, that would be a relief. Now you know what NOT to do. It's even easier on you to deliver something that's going to satisfy readers. If you're truly stuck and don't know where to go or how to end it, there are plenty of youtubers and redditors that have theories you can just run with and say that's what you had all along. Only issue is foreshadowing I suppose. Some things are locked in. You cannot have a different ending without hurting the story that's already been set up. Because you know he loves his dreams and prophecies.
He needs to just end it with Bran being so great and powerful he caused the Mad king to geaux crazy and yet somehow some way he was Bran The Builder.

This dude has not written a thing in years. The only reason he hasn't come out and said he's no longer writing or interested in finishing it is because he doesn't want to get sued for breach of contract or whatever.

It's clear as day he has zero interest or motivation to finish the books

He's writing. The problem is he's constantly re-writing and running into ditches because he has too much material, too many characters, and too much lore building. IMO it's been clear for the last 12 years that he's most passionate about lore. Any chance he gets to make some Targaryen history he's gonna write a bunch of shyt in a short period of time. Hence why the Fire & Blood books were written so quickly. But when it's time to actually progress the current ASOIAF story? He can't. Not because he isn't writing but because every other POV character is getting bogged down in lore drops. He doesn't understand that he's run out of pages and has no more room for that.

I bet he has way more pages than can be printed. Enough to make a part 1/part 2 split. But I'd also bet that even if he split the book into two it wouldn't advance the story that much. Like out of the 1800+ pages he probably has written, has Dany gotten on a boat and left Essos? Probably not. Is Tyrion on his way back to Westeros? Probably not. He's gotta get this narrative rolling like it was during ASOS or he will never finish.
Final books have essentially become his Silmarillion.
He needed a near death experience to lock himself in his writing room and pump out the final books without caring if fans get upset like Stephen King with the final three books of the Dark Tower series

I would kill an important show character like bran or arya within the first hundred pages just to let nikkas know the show ending isn't the book ending.

There are so many theories online about how the books would end and what different foreshadowing means. Dude could just copy the best theories and most people would be perfectly fine with it.
It's sad that he can't figure out how to finish on his own terms but if he really wanted to he could've found a solution. Ego is too big to ask for help :francis: pay someone to help you with the story, pay extra to have that person sign a NDA so you can claim its all your own work. If he really wanted to deliver it would have been done already.

He isn't, no matter how "stuck" you are you don't take more than 10 years finishing a book whose story you already know, hell he moved over 100 pages from Dance to Wind.

He got Faegon to westeros with the quickness, he can have Dany do her BS with the Dothraki in one or two chapters, let someone ruling the city and fukk off to westeros in two other chapters, there, done with fukking Meeren, the problem is he got in his head with the reactions to the show and now has no energy to come up with a new ending, he himself said he fixed the Meerenese knot in 2011.

He can take care of the Lore with another World of Westeros book.

he is not finishing the books, they will only be finished if he brings in a team of writers. he supposedly started winds of winter around 2011. and 9 years later, if he couldn't finish it during covid, which would have been prime time for him to finish it due to the restrictions and tv/movie productions being shut down, there is no way he is finishing it now.
