Hard to discuss without regurgitating stuff we probably said a decade ago lol. But I remember the wait for ADWD, and the way Martin would regularly provide updates. You could argue he was being too transparent lol. I remember when he first started talking about the "Mereenese Knot" and later revealed he figured out how to solve it (by making Barristan a POV character). Once Dance came out nobody expected Winds to be released within a couple years BUT we figured that because he solved the biggest obstacle he had faced thus far, surely the wait wouldn't be as long. Instead it's been twice as long a wait, bordering on three times as long.

In that span he has quit writing for the show, taken multiple breaks from public appearances, and been on fukking quarantine due to a global pandemic lol. And within the last few years he's back to putting too much attention onto television adaptions, back to traveling, and back to writing other shyt. For years he said he wouldn't write another Dunk & Egg novella until he finished Winds. Now that D&E has an HBO greenlight he's saying that he's working on the next novella. I used to have a lot of hope, ranging from super hopeful to "yea it's taken forever but it's gonna come out eventually." Now? I dunno. I stand by my theory that he has too much material with no end in sight because he won't stop expanding the world with long exposition/lore instead of advancing the story.

He slowed the pace down of the last 2 books released by dedicating whole chapters describing food on the table and wines,

A castrated THEON prepping Jane for Ramsay by licking her Box

Tyrion Raping prostitutes and fantasizing about sex with his sister.
and a whole chapter of Daenerys drinking dirty water and getting Diarrhea, Imagine how epic Tv would have been all these plots only to see Emilia Clarke wide booty pop a Squat on HBO and let it rain

instead of advancing the plot fast like A Game of Thrones and a Storm of Swords. We got 2 bloated books of set up talk, feasts,sex, rape and no battles. With too many points of view.


He got that TV money which is what he always wanted and wanted to keep the party going.

Allegedly 14 years into writing Winds of winter he is only 75% done with that one book and that's with 33% of the book being leftovers from A Dance with Dragons, because he never got the battles that was supposed to happen in a Dance of Dragons done.

he's got too many characters and plot threads too far away from each other to finish it properly in 2 books.

He needs all the characters in Essos (Danny the dothraki, Jorah, Tyrion,moquorro, and half the Iron Born, the other red priests and slaves in the free cities) to get together defeat the slavers and head to westeros and start fighting either Cersei, FAegon or Euron for the Iron throne.

That's like 6-7 different plot threads there with at least
3 huge battles looming which should start the book with a bang.
Battle at mereen (Fire) Danny's army Lead by Baristan Selmy and 2 dragons versus the slavers with Tyrion, Jorah,half the Iron born and moquorro in the mix)

Battle of (steel) Aegon Targaryen supposed Dead son of Rhaegar, backed by Varys illirio, Dorne and The Golden company invading Stormsend vs the Stormland's armies mostly Tyrells and Tarly with hints that Sam's father might flip on the Lannisters and betray the Tyrells for Aegon.

Battle of Oldtown (Blood)
Euron Greyjoy wearing valyrian steel armor and half the Ironborn fleet invading Oldtown vs the Redwine fleet and the hightowers. Euron is (a suspected Warg and former protege of Bloodraven) casting blood spells by sacrificing priest, and even some of the wizards that tried to kill Danny in Qart, even his own pregnant "salt wife". Drinking that Spychodelic Blue wine that the wizards drank and Chumming the water with lots of blood . Some demonic fukkery bout to happen there. Or might be a Red herring and that Nikka is just high off that wine and hearing voices.

And then up north we got 5 plots
1 The wildings, night watch, Melissandre, Selisse ,Shireen, Ghost (with Jon's consciousness Inside) and Jon's corpse at the wall. Some magic spell/sacrifice will be made that might break the wall there is plenty of Kings Blood to go around.

2 Davos headed to Skagos to get Rickon and shaggydog,

3 near Winterfell Stannis in the Cut setting a trap for the Boltons. He captured Theon And Jane , And Stannis knows about the people trying to betray him in his camp.
inside Winterfell the tense atmosphere and plotting by Lord Manderly Da Gawd ( my guess the Manderlys Kill the Freys team up with Stannis and they sneak into Winterfell via the crypts and kill Roose and Barbrey Dustin kills Ramsay)

4 the white walkers in the shadows ready to swoop down pack up everybody including their main target up next.
5 Bran ,Hodor, Bloodraven, Meera Reed and Leaf, (jojen is missing and might be the paste Bran took to have his visions ) in the Cave way up north. With No signs of where the lost Night watch rangers went including Benjen Stark, Maybe Bloodraven sent the wight he controls ColdHands to save them and that's why they turned ColdHands into Benjen in the Show.

Sansa and Little finger in the Vale.hoarding Food and Knights for the winter. With a goon up there possibly sent by Varys to Retrieve Sansa.

Catelyn Stark's Corpse now a Zombie called lady Stoneheart near the Twins ready to take revenge on Walder Frey at his own Crib and she's got Bryenne and Jamie Lannister Hemmed up. Near a Frey Wedding

Forgot to add Robb's possible pregnant widow being transported from the twins to Casterly Rock by the Lannisters Keeping her as hostage. And the Blackfish who escaped Riverrun might have linked up with some goons go run up on the Lannisters and free his nephew's widow.

So many damn plots almost just wrote a Whole Chapter just summarizing the loose plot threads that have to come together. And then determine who's going to survive and rule whatever is left after after all these conflicts. Been editing this shyt for damn near 2 hours and forgot to add In Glegane Bowl , How is Sandor who's at the quiet isle burrying bodies in the Riverlands going to Run into Zombie Gregor all the way up in kings landing) damn George what a beautiful mess you have made

You think HBO is going to wait for your old, lazy ass to finish the next book/novella/whatever before they continue the story and risk their pay day???

That story about him flying to pitch the HBO execs trying to convince them to do a 2-3 season adaptation of AFFC & ADWD to give him more time to write is comedy
