i ended up watching Burnt.
if you thought any movie was Bradley Coopers directoral debut it would have been that instead of A Star Is Born.
which reminds me, i still need to watch Kitchen Confidential were Cooper is basically playing a fictional Anthony Bourdain.

50s hollywood is definitely one of the most interesting 'periods' 
but they don't make too many flicks like this anymore. No saving the world or super spies, etc. Just a movie about people and life.
